Has anyone else ever been as amused as i have at those movies where the bad guy flicks a cigarette butt onto some gasoline and everything goes boom? Unless it's a naked flame or the fumes have really built up in a serious way it's not likely to explode that easily, or so a Physics Prof once told me.

mobile phones do not cause explosions. I think its synthetic material that does, cos this dude used a mobile phone for a bit next to a load of petrol and gas (and a caravan) and nothing happened, but he put on some synthetic clothes and jumped up and down, touched a wire that lead towards some petrol, and the caravan exploded

It is not allowed in banks here in India and also in many manufacturing plants. Thats because the high frequency signals emitted by the phones can cause maloperation of various sensitive devices in these plants.

The Mythbusters did a "gas station" test on the Discovery Channel. Nothing happened... not even a hint of a spark.
They filled a box with gas fumes, had a mobile inside, made calls, turned it off & on, shorted the battery, shorted the phone... everything possible and improbable. Nothing happened.

& at hospitals it forbidden because its damaging the medical instruments ... & because of the ring signals ... it disturbs the patients & the doctors
