can you crop the image with your settings
with FFmpegx?
so you can see the image full screen instead of the widescreen kind of deal?
let me know if that Forty Two DVD VX software works well
it can be a good investment...

You CAN crop in ffmpegX, but you need to do it manually.
Forty-Two does it automatically as far as I can see.
So far it works quite well, only problem is that it won't accept h.264 mp4 movies and also I have 1 DVD where it will only encode with the english soundtrack, when I try to encode in Danish there's no sound.
Also, with aspect ratio 4:3 it encodes as 320x240 which is a bit to big for the P910 screen, but smartmovie just scales it and it plays OK.
But it's by far the easiest way to encode and the quality is really god.
Also, I read from the smartmovie documentation that it's best to use mono sound give more cpu for the picture - but I can't get ffmpegX to do that, even if I select it.
With Forty-two it does it automatically.
Basically FFmpegX gives you much more control, but is therefore also more difficult to use, Forty-two does not give many options, but it's dead easy to use.
Forty two has a demo mode, so you can test it yourself.

I tried the demo version of Forty two ,
Reeeeally easy to use
that's really cool.
A problem I found, is that the audio is really low
is that just for the demo version?
Does the resolution compare to your settings of FFmpges?
Another advantage , is that rips the dvd right away...
before using FFmpegs ,Instead, I think you need another software to Rip the dvd that is encripted....(am I right?)

I haven't tried ripping directly, but it may do that.
Regarding the audio, I've not encountered the problem in either demo or full mode - So I really can't say.
For me quality is better than with ffmpegX - but since ffmpegX has so many settings on might be able to improve it there too.
But I must say I like the simplicity of Forty-Two

I'm pretty sure that your quicktime program only converts to MP4 - and only if you buy the $30 PRO version.
If course you might install an Xvid encoder plugin, but you still need Quicktime Pro, and it will never be as simple to use as Forty-Two DVD-VXPlus.
So, VXPlus or FFmpegX are the real options for SmartMovie, and cheaper than Quicktime Pro too
Cheers
