it really depends on how serious you are about doing work on your device. with QuickOffice on the P-series, you can access word & excel files, but if it's a big file, it can take ages to load up. i found it was passable on my P910 for reading the files, but for editing and doing actual work, i never really liked it. plus the excel functions were very limited.
reply:
== I'll be working on the files on the device itself. I do some branch visit to do some compliance reports, so i guess i'll doing lots of editing and actual work. Yeah, i experienced the same loading delays with my P900 before. I was hoping it would be better on the P910i.
palm uses Documents To Go, which appears to be the best office suite around (even better than MS' implementation for Windows Mobile). loads up very fast, huge and much more readable screen on my T5, and you can switch to landscape view. plus, a lot of excel functions are available.
reply:
== T/X has the same Docs to Go version or better?
== Moto A780 specs say "Document Viewer. It means you cannot edit the file and just maybe view it?
definitely a lot more apps for the palm, and many that don't have any equivalents available for symbian yet. and once i started to use it, you do see the huge difference between a smartphone and a dedicated high-end PDA. (more than double the processing power, a lot more & cheaper memory, BUT battery life usually good for 1 day only, sometimes less, depending on use)
but the choice is very personal. do you mind carrying 2 devices or do you want it all in one? one other thing, after using wifi on my T5, i decided that i don't want wifi on my phone for the simple reason that it sucks the life out of your battery EXTREMELY FAST! you don't want to be out somewhere in the middle of the day with a dead phone right?
reply:
== I really don't mind carrying 2 devices. I owned a P900 before and a Palm Zire 72s paired with the ever reliable t68i. I usually leave the office/home with my devices fully charged. But yeah, that's one thing i don't want to happen. I don't want a dead phone just because i used the other features like mp3 or internet browsing. How many hours can your Palm last when you're surfing using WIFI?

@JN
Why you selling your Moto? Thought you said it's a good smartphone
I decided to choose between the P910i and Palm T/X because I'm more familiar with both OS

Thanks for the offer though.
@Resident
That's it! I really really like having my P900 before except for certain functions like the Office Tools. I was really hoping it would be better on the QuickOffice apps in the P910i.

Had more choice been available (& I had deeper) pockets, I would have taken a device with better Networking features.
The points DO stand out:
# 910 is a phone first and PDA later
# Options in Qtek, Palm etc. and esp'ly Linux devices are fairly priced
# Battz on 910 does give up fast.
# not sure but, Vertu (Nokia's luxury brand) may have some comparable options.

yes, TX has same version of Documents To Go i think. not sure tho if it is the Premium version. mine wasn't so i had to upgrade it. with Premium, you can access password-protected files, plus some other functionalities too. check it out at

well, browsing news websites and updating my RSS feeds with wifi every morning takes about 15 to 20 min and battery power drops by between 20-30% depending on level of activity. but wifi is a hell of a lot faster than GPRS, so...
