i doubt it very much.

i have a w800 with an early firmware, and a w800i with the latest. Both have the same problem.

The root of my (and by the sounds of it, your) problem is that the SEUS USB drivers are not installed, but XP wont accept them.

it has nothing to do with signed/unsigned drivers, its just the XP SP2 refuses to accept them as a driver for the flash device it detects.

I had many problems the phone just turning on while holding on the
"c" key until after hours of trying I managed to install the flash driver. The reason the phone doesn't start updating because even though the usb drivers are installed the USB flash driver that needs for this update is not installed.and since windows doesn't install it automatically you have to go to windows's device manager and look at your device list while trying to hold the "C" and turning on the phone. "USB flash device" will pop up on the device list for only a couple of seconds with a big yellow questionmark. right click on it before it dissapears and hit properities then install the driver file that you previously downloaded from sony ericsson website. It will say "sony ericsson usb flash driver" Once you installed this flash driver you can start the procedure and when you get to the part of holding "c" key and turn off the phone it will start the update. You can go to device manager from Start menu/control panel/system/ hardware/device manager. If any part of this description is unclear PM me. Good luck!

believe me, myself and others have tried this:

http://www.k-700.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-1613.html

The problem is that XP (in my case SP2), when you hold 'c', the phone powers on, and windows detects a "USB flash device" (different to the one already installed). However, when trying to manually point the wizard to the folder containing the extracted drivers for he SEUS USB driver, it does not accept the EPIUSB.inf as containing valid information for the device.

No amount of fiddling with the driver file, or trying to "update driver" from the device manager works.

I have tried 3 pc's, 3 phones, both signed and unsigned versions of W800i drivers, and downloaded both set from different internet connections. The only common denominator to these reported problems is windows XP SP2. Has anybody else managed to get it working on XP sp2?

The (limited) insallation instructions have been followed to the letter, all to no avail.

The only thing i havent tried yet is the DaVinci EPI drivers. I'll give them a go and let you all know.

I think the reason for the drivers not being recognised is because after the phone boots up it changes to a different device. I'm gonna try what george has suggested... I'll let you know if it works...

Hey Andaho I'm glad you're managed to install the driver. The method I described would help a lot of people with the same problem, since I've been in the same situation before and found the solution. Personally I don't think it would affect computers differently with
SP2. For thoose who haven't been able to install the flash drive, you should give it a try and follow the procedure I described (what can you lose you've spend hours and hours to try it.) Good luck guys!
