@gelfen

What do you mean about pachy?

@Dragonfly_TP

It doesn't really have anything to do with the post count, it's more about when someone joined.

@vanquish

I didn't interact with either of you much when I first joined and as time went on I interacted most with MixiN and Vlamm. It wasn't meant as an insult.

@meths

I take it your description will be following shortly then ...

Haha, interesting observations in that link.

I first found this site when browsing WAP on my newly acquired K700 in November 2004. I downloaded some ringtones and themes but didnt look at the forum much because browsing WAP sites via VodafoneNZ can earn you a nasty bill.

I got my first ever computer in March 05 and came here to find info on MP3 software. As a complete novice I kept a low profile so as to not look like a complete dick?!? but have grown in confidence enough to even enter the Political threads.

I feel that this forum is a voyage of discovery for people like myself who once:

had never saved an MP3 file
never used a B/T dongle
never connected to the internet using GPRS via B/T
never created a custom theme
never heard of firmware updates
never used PC synchronisation s/w of any kind
never used bbcode before
never knew that manufacturer branding locked some features
never knew that VodafoneNZ releases phones 3-6 months behind Europe

Thanks to my fellow esato members my eyes have been opened. You could say I've been unplugged from the Matrix...

As time goes by and the amount of undiscovered territory diminishes, it's easy to feel jaded, especially as newbies arrive asking the same simple questions... but then the purpose of this forum is to share knowledge isn't it?

So I expand my horizon's by visiting the Mobile Free Zone and keeping a regular eye on the Accessory section to answer Carkit questions - my area of expertise - and this for me keeps the forum fresh and alive.

There's alot I dont know about computers and the PC help thread has come in handy, especially when securing my WLAN network.

Sadly this voyage is to be cut short (see my sig) but I shall try to visit once in a while as I'll miss interacting with all of you.

I think it would be interesting to hear from someone who has successfuly gone back to the Golden Age. Is there anyone who has done so?

I believe i have. I burst onto the esato scene, regaling everyone with my wit, wisdom, and life experience. Then, i felt something change...an emptiness consumed me, and i slipped to unholy depths that no-one can imagine (That'll be Spurious Nonesense). However, i have recovered, and believe that Esato is as good as when i first joined. Sure, faces have come and gone, old favourite threads have been replaced by new favourites, but it still has the same basic lovable, laughable, geeky soul.

I still enjoy coming here as much as I have always done.

I agree with the article. It happens that the amount of new members that come along alter the feel/personality of the forums - not for the worse - it just changes over time, like the article states. People have the choice of either going along for the ride or bailing out.

It is nice when an Old Poster pops up to say hello but it is also funny to see some of the new posters interacting too!

I don't spend as much time on here as I used to but I do look forward to a heated debate - as much as I look forward to reading JN's posts Esato is still a rich tapestry of information and boasts nice helping of decent and varied people amongst its members and thats a winning formula. The article states that: -

"When you join a forum, unless you’re a charter member, you’ll be regaled with tales from the regulars about how the place used to be so much better. As such, the Golden Age is defined as some time prior to your joining the forum. You, of course, enter the forum in the Silver Age. It’s not as good as the legends tell you it used to be, but it’s still as much fun as you’ll ever experience it."

Which means that as long as people are still joining Esato, then it will always be in the Silver Age as I don't think there is too much rubbish being posted

As an 'Oldie', I believe my Esato habits have remained constant throughout. If I left the golden stage at any time, someone forgot to tell me!
