i would suggest scanning the individual files (or the directories they are in) with Norton before moving them. there should be a command for that when you right-click the file/folder in windows explorer.

Yeah, I'd go with what everybody else has suggested. If I understand correctly, you have a spare hard drive right? If there's nothing important on it you could do a fresh install of XP on it, install norton, then put your existing virus infected drive in as a slave.
You can then safely copy your files to the main drive because norton will pick up any viruses as the files are being copied over.
It's a bit of a labourious job but it's one way to get your files safely from one drive to another using only one PC.

Hey Thanx Indeed guys. Much appreciate it ICEwinds, Blu, Gelfen, Cyco ! Was almost thinking the course suggested. Have these: a 4GB (yeah) , IBMs a 10 and another 20, the messed 40G Samsung (and maybe one of the IBMs) and the 80G Barracuda I had transfer the stuff FROM, before sending it for replac'mnt. So am thinking of using the 4GB or ultimately the Seagate as its fast at 7000+ rpm for my kind of use (odd lot Financial S/W, some AV editing and a 5000 songs collection)
