OEM stands for "original equipment manufacturer".
Example,
Two types of CPU's. Retail, and OEM.
They both are originals, but the retail comes boxed in a printed retail box, manual, and sometimes a fan/heatsink.
OEM of a CPU is when it's only offered the CPU for bulk rate, so that 3rd party builders can buy them without the extra cost of the retail combo.
But OEM is still original. This applies to computers, electronics, and automobile.

To be honest, what does it matter if it's not genuine SE ? As long as it looks good and the price is right for what you're paying then there should be no conflicts.

True i suppose, but many housings ive bought that aren't OEM tend to be real cheap and don't fit properly, resulting in the phone feeling fragile.

You're right! It doesn't matter if it's not genuine, as long as it "looks good". Did you see my other thread about Fatmui? Didn't look good to me. Keypad doesn't fit either. So I guess generics DO matter since they'll never have the fit and form of the actual product.
I guess I wouldn't mind at all to use a product that is cheaply made if I have a $100 phone, but k750i is valued at $450. It's like putting on cheap $18 rotors on my 7.35i BMW from Napa. Looks the same, warps in 1 month.
Trust me, I'd pay $100 for genuine housings, but I can't find any housings over $30... I tried!

I always use Official parts for servicing my phones. People who are lucky enough to know someone who works at a SEMC factory often purchase them. I am not sure if its company policy to let employees sell parts for their own profit. But 100% it does happen.

I always thought OEM stood for 'other equipment manufacturer'!
There are some very good quality fakes out there. I've had a couple of T610 facias that were most probably fakes, but did look identical to the originals.
The main thing that worries me is that these fakes are made by organised criminals, and by buying them we're funding organised crime!

Actually OEM stand for "Original Equipment Manufacturer"
I've bought parts from MobileFun before for my T68 and T610 and they have always been originals.
I'm now looking for a cover for my 750 and i think i'll be getting mine from there!
Cheers

I did see your thread about Fatmui and it's exactly the same as this one, just without the pictures. OK, generics DO matter, but you've stated that, let it be. If you have any more complaints, complain to the people themselves rather than whining on this board, this won't achieve anything.

I just got one from seller "ec878".
I was very careful and checked many sellers before buying.
The picture for the item was good, seems like an original, plus he clearly states "original OEM" in the auction.
I'll let you know once it arrives. If it's a fake i'll be getting mine from MobileFun as I said earlier (at twice the price though...)
Cheers

I don't see why the SE factory wouldn't sell surplus shells to retailers to be honest. It's another income stream afterall.
And OEM does mean Original Equipment Manufacturer - and it specifically means original equipment that is sold without the retail packaging and is therefore cheaper. In the case of software, OEM software is cheaper but must be purchased with a computer or computer part (such as a hard drive).
The term has also come to be the generic term to mean original eqipment ie: built by the original manufacturer and not a third party (in such a case, a third party contracted by the original manufacturer still classifies as "original". ) However a company building accessories for a device without any input from the original manufacturer is a third party and NOT OEM.
