That's a good one
Getting people disappointed with 3G... Why the hell would they ever do that? Given Nokia's position on the mobile market today (nr.1), the only way to get people disappointed with 3G would actually be not to release anything at all. I really don't follow your logic. That's pure non-sense. Why would they bother spending money designing phones for something they wouldn't like to sell?? Why would Nokia even bother selling UMTS networks at all then???
C'mon. Come back on Earth where you belong

This is a first generation of 3G phones that was released today, like GSM phones 10 years ago. They will only get better. And the penetration rate will increase gradually. Now, I agree that to make people buy this 1st phones will be challenging, unless adequate services and pricing are provided. Sonera presented some first view of their 3G service offering at least. No there are definitely great potentials, but just don't ask everything at once, be patient and one day it will come, I hope at least

Look e.g. at what has happened in the past 2 years. There's been a huge change don't you agree. MMS is now here up&running, and it only asks to bloom with support of UMTS.

But the bad thing is this STUPID british government that initiated this UMTS licences at amazing prices, killing the whole business for a few years, and bankrupting companies at the same time. Look at what has happened since UK did this thing... Operators have no money for infrastructure. Those who did network financing (e.g. Nortel, Ericsson) are in big trouble because they don't get their money in due time...

Well.. it's just a theory that I've heard. I'm not saying that I believe that. But it's an interesting thought. The 3G phones made buy Asian developers will probbaly beat Nokia/Siemens/Sony Ericsson/Motorola both in price and features, and according to this theory Nokia is afraid that people will buy asian phones instead of there own. And since Nokia's main area are mobile phones they have to keep a big market share. And that will not be easy when the market is flooded with cheap phones from manufacturers like Sharp, Nec, LG, Panasonic etc.

Sure I agree with you that this is the first generation of 3G phones, and that they will be better all the time. But 3G phones have to be better than GSM phones if they should sell at all, and this phone is not better than the GSM phones. I mean both Nokia and Ericsson have better phones than this... and the 6650 will not be available before summer next year... that's a long time....

Yes it has happened a lot the last 2 years... maybe that is why I had expected more I guess....
Sadly no provider has MMS in Sweden yet

Yeah I know.. but the worst government is probably Germany's they had the highest prices. I heard that the total licensing sum in EU was about 100 billion euros... and in Germany alone the licenses cost about 50 billion euros. If all that money would have been spended on networks instead we would have 3G networks up and running.. and probably a much better economy...

I actually believe that theory. And I think it goes for 2.5G phones as well (i.e. wap/gprs). Kids can't afford 8*** or 63**; and nokia just won't stop making 3310, primarily because it's more profitable to continue making outdated phones that sell than to innovate, but it's not healthy for the industry in the long run.

On a side note; Sony Ericsson is both asian and european which would seem practical when 3G hits big time in a few years.

Well I think it's ugly as sin

Personally I wouldn't buy it on principle because:

a) It's the first phone available in a new market market (3G) meaning that it's bound to have serious s/w issues as they'll want to put it out before anyone else rather than beta test it properly (remember when everyone thought a Nokia 7110 with it's original v4.84 s/w was a good idea? The damn thing crashed everytime you tried to use the WAP browser after about 2.5 minutes, sometimes it even crashed on connection);

b) It's bound to be superceded in the very near future after it's release by other 3G phones which have had more extensive testing and are therefore more stable - and probably more functional too seeing as they'll be able to include features that Nokia will have over looked (and which will obviously get highlighted on forums such as this );

c) It says Nokia on the front.
