Numg got it's point, again true, so my advice to all of you is to forget about recompression of mp3's and just buy a bigger flash card, 512MB or 1GB card will be just enough.

yes mp3 has it all... in terms of bitrate sampling and stuff...

but those who cares about space alot... need to recompress the biggies... we cant blame them.

atleast we have numb here to clear out the differences, now we can all listen to our favorite tunes.

I usually get my music files in mpeg-4/aac 300kbps vbr or 220kbps vbr. (not from mp3 but encoded directly to that usually.) I rather have quality since i play them at home too. I can fit a bit on the 1 gig stick.

i beg to differ.

i just experimented with a few codecs that the Walkman phones support and it came to a conclusion that mpePRO wins hands down.

i did a re-encoded and directly encoded from a HDCD.

mp3PRO has by far better quality and better compression compared to other audio codecs(even aac/mp4/m4a)

i have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card with a Audio-Technica headphones to determine the audio quality. I will post clips if needed/requested.

Its a matter of opinion if mp3pro sounds better than aac/mp4, personally I prefer the sound of aac, but I fully accept if you like mp3pro better.

It doesnt make much diffence in regards to the debate on aac vs mp3 on the W800/K750 though because these phones only support normal mp3, even if you put an mp3pro file on the phone it will play as a normal mp3 because it doesnt have the codec extension to take advantage of the mp3pro encoding.

Well most of my music is 'stream'ripped from the net (via winamp 5) from di.fm (usually 70-80 minute Dj sets) which are @ 96kbps mp3,i convert to 80kbps HE AAC with Nero, which ìs saving me approx 8-10 mb on each set,i dont notice any difference in sound thru the hpm 70 so im cool with that. I keep the original rips on my comp too. Straight from a cd would obviously be better, but i dont buy cd's ;-) Hope that cleared things up :-o This message was posted from a WAP device
