Laffen, you're way out of line here. Nobody is going to sue you for letting people post questions. It's like posting a question on how to chip your car or how to kill Laffen for that matter. Asking is legit, the answer is legit, its the DOING that may be illegal. That is not your responsibility. So, I guess you are Mr. Censorship after all. 2 bad.

Please note, that Laffen is trying to protect the reputation of the website. Nobody may sue him but considering the financial might of the phone operators, it is likely that they will spread bad image of Esato. He has worked quite hard to bring where Esato is today and he is not going to let that flush down the drain because someone wants to unlock his phone.

And I personally think we are blowing this topic way out of proportion.

Have you read what happened to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet's discussion forum?
"Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 04:19:42 PM EST

In a ruling today, a Swedish court holds the editor of thke web edition of Aftonbladet (a major Swedish newspaper) responsible for comments published on their forum, and the forum has subsequently closed. "

There's a big difference between speading racist opinions ( which is illegal ) and asking questions about unlocking telephones. There is, as I stated earlier, no law against asking questions. Furthermore, it IS a big deal; The right to free speech is being undermined every day, and I think its dangerous and very, very sad. You are, of course, free to disagree. I hope I am, too( and that the next step won't be that opinions that don't mach the moderater's are banned too )

Ah, so you have seen it Xeleven.

I hear what you say and fully understand. I would like to think that laffen censoring opinions that don't match his own is about as likely as free money for all. Esato has grown to become quite and influential website in the mobile world. I and many of my friends have used it to help make decisions when buying phones. I'm sure that if the mobile manufacturers and service providers felt that it was detrimental to their business then they would make efforts to have it closed.

Above all it is an invaluable and informative resource for the mobile user. I for one would hate to lose it. Chances are it would never come to that, but you never know.

come on!

Unlocking a phone cannot be illegal if the phone is yours! We know that operators pay part of the cost because we are signing a contract with them. If you do not brake the contract, youīre not doing anything illegal. Furthermore, ulocking the phone does not mean that youīre going to stop using this or that operator.

I can understand you worry about the image of esato, but i canīt see anything wrong in talking about unlocking. In fact, there is nothing wrong doing it.

BTW, did you know that the cost of a text message for the operator is 10% of what we are paying for it? good busines, isnīt it?

Calm down people..
Just drop it, if you want help unlocking your phone go to some other site instead!

And I don't get the comparision some of you make, that it's the same thing to throw your phone in the water, or out of a building as it is to unlock it.
What the hell!?
Grow up! You know that it's not the same thing, and if you don't, then try it! Destroy your phone, see what good that makes.

As for the legal part, I would say that it IS illegal.
When you buy your phone, and it's locked to the network, you sign a contract.
And that contract binds you to use that networ with that phone for so long as the contract says.
If you unlock the phone before that period is over, your making a violation.
So what if some people/stores will unlock it for you. You are the one with the responsability, you make them do it.
In sweden it's illegal to buy sex, but not illegal to sell.
My point is, just because the service exists, doesn't mean it's ok to use it.

So drop the conversation, it is clearly not a wanted subject here at esato.
