I wonder why some P990 fanatics keep saying that the phone is "way better" than others?! I turned my back on SE with my new Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA (been using P910 and other SE phones for a few years) and I yet to find out what aspect P990 is better than my Dopod 818 Pro?! So far I’m 100% satisfied with my new phone.
And it's very popular here to blame Windows Mob. OS, but I hope you realizing that new Symbian OS is going to be buggy too. One of the reasons for P990 is the OS problems..

So the point is that I agree with those saying that specification wise P990 is nothing special.

IMHO windows mobile doesn't do it for me. I must say that I haven't tried WM5 but only earlyer versions. I prefer a mobile with PDA functions to a PDA with mobile functions. My experience is that WM freezes and then put the mobile function out of use. That I have never tried with Symbian phones (SE P900 and P910). That is why I stick to SE and why I am a P990 "fanatic". Besides the WM os looks boring in my opinion.

I use a I-Mate PDA2K (I know its not WM5) as a PDA with GPRS and WIFI. As a phone it is really pants. I mainly use it for web browsing and Sat Nav. IMO the screen of the WM5 smart phones (not the PDA's) and the P990i are too small for both web browsing or decent sat nav.
As a phone I use my W800i. I prefere to have both and use them for what I do rather than compromise and have one device that does all things I want badly.

That Mio looks sweet! There is no way I can see myself with a p990 now - I don't want a keyboard on my phone. I personally think that there are 3 buttons too many on the p910 as it is - just give my the stylus and 5 way jog-dial...
So, while the A701 has far too many buttons, it has cheaper memory cards, looks gorgeous, isn't 3G, no keyboard, built in GPS, faster cpu, lots more 3rd party applications (all my p910 apps will be redundant on the p990 anyway) so I'm waiting for it to get in the shops... then my pocket!!!

Geee that looks juicy i love the new icons too, but i may still have to stick with the p990 though.

you say it doesnt have a wifi, but it has a wifi indication on the mitac screen, or maybe there is other version of this type of phone.

I've waited years for the P900/910 successor and what there offering is a let down. It'l be so behind the times when they release it (if and when that is)!

No it won't be behind the times at all - it'll be the very latest and greatest Symbian device on the market - it just won't happen to have GPS, and that's all this argument seems to come down to. Personally I couldn't care less about GPS, and even if I did have an occasional use for it, I'd rather have it as an optional extra - I've no desire to carry it around with me 24/7. I don't believe GPS will ever be a "must have" in phones for that exact reason - most people just aren't bothered. You are, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean the P990 isn't still (a) very attractive to the rest of us, and (b) technically better than the GPS phone you're about to buy instead.

Also, what is it with all the guff in this thread about the P990 being delayed, and will it/won't it be released - did none of you actually read the press releases at the original announcement? There is no delay, the P990 will appear when it was meant to appear, the announcement was made in advance to allow developers to catch up, that's all.

Comparing the A701's CPU with the P990's is to compare apples with oranges (being from different manufacturers), so any direct comparison of clock speed is pretty meaningless.

Regardless, a lot of the A701's chip "power" is wasted anyway having to deal with the inefficiencies inherent in WM5.

Are you referring to me?
Comparing the two specific phones the P990 comes clearly on top.
And about the WM, to quote a swedish saying "The taste is like the butt, divided"
I didn't know it was popular among Esato members to blame WM.
I have my own reasons for not liking this specific OS, live with it!

Also never in my post did I say he should not buy it because of WM.
On the contrary I encouraged him to buy the Mio A701 instead of the P990 since it fitted his needs perfectly.

It's quite stable.. I have been using Windows Mobile 5.0 based phone for last two months. I've had 2 resets so far. Speed wise it OK too.
And WIFI 801.11 G support.. I couldn't live without it. Since in the place where I use the phone, wireless routers doesn't allow 801.11 B based devices.
