Yeah . . . and we can just see very limited celfone companies who are making high-end fones . . . I guess XDA/Imate (not sure of the exact name of these though) are one of those . . .

HTC don't need to make low-end kit, as they specialise on building smartphones for lots of different networks/customers. How many brand names are there for, essentially, the same kit? Loads - but they can offer a massive amount of customisation - probably far beyond what Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and the like can.

They really don't make 'ordinary' phones, let alone entry level models. I'm sure if they did, they would really cause grief to everyone else. They already have excellent relationships with all the networks, so it would be quite easy for them to dominate other market segments.

But, they don't seem to want to - for now.

there is no comppromise on quality on the low end handsets. They are excellent quality. They are short on features yes, but that's the whole point of a low end phone - they have less features in order to offer them at low end prices. Low feature set DOES NOT equal low quality.

The lowend phones are excellent value for money and allow SE to compete with Nokia more effectively.

Sheesh, everyone used to blame SE for NOT releasing a wide variety of handsets including the low end, now they are doing so and peeps want to complain about that too.

I agree. There's absolutely no way to compete by making only high end phones. My wife's got a K300i and whilst it's limited in features, it's still a very complete phone aat a reasonable price. Still better than the Nokias in the same price range. This message was posted from a P910

its like playing darts.. you dont hafta hit the cherries all the time... theres a part of the game where you should hit every other targets other than cherries.

thats why marketing call it.. target markets or market level and stuff like that... if you hit each and every one of them with precision... then your off to a good sale...

we dont hafta make it complicated to understand these things... its simple logic actually... its expensive to make high-end phones... and definitely were not all Prince Charles here... some are Che Guereros here...

cheers!

I think part of the problem, especially apparent on forums, is that everyone wants to have (or be seen to have) the best mobile. In the days of Nokia releasing a new phone pretty much once a year, it was easy to have the best. Now, there is a huge choice and so it's a lot more difficult.

As SE produce more and more kit, people find that they've just bought something that could be seen as out of date in a few months. Suddenly it's a stupid decision to make X, Y or Z because it competes with whatever they have (or want). SE however are looking at building a portfolio, giving more choice and grabbing marketshare.

If a whole new range appears (like the M600), and you've just made up your mind to get a P990, then it seems it's very easy to get resentful when it shouldn't make any difference at all!

Sony Ericsson must monitor these forums (in fact, I know they do) but they can't just build phones for the likes of us. Otherwise every phone would be high-end!
