You should have a spam email address for when you register to sites, and a personal email just for people. I have ZERO spam emails on my host. On the other hand, i probably get 50 a day on my hotmail address.

gmail keep all your mail.
@johnex, I have my own host as well, but it's handy to have an email address or two not associated with one's domain. GMX is reliable and I keep that address spam free the same as my domain. I use yahoo for spammers/forums etc.
