if you want "proper" headphones, Sony MDR V500 or V700 are dead good.
failing that a pair of Sony MDR-7506 will sort you out good and proper and if Sony arent your cup of tea try a pair of Grado SR-60 (proper old school design) but why fix it if it aint broke?
hmmm heaven in a pair of cans

if your after good cheap headphones try these on ebay
http://search.ebay.co.uk/senn[....]sooZ1QQfsopZ1QQssPageNameZWLRS
i own the sennheiser s and the sonys, the sony are very average for the omoney i bought them in a rush one day when i left the mx500 at home. out of the 2 the sonys cant hold a candle to the mx500. they are a better all round performer. the sonys are very disappointing sonically.
though if your a sony only fan try the mdr ed21lp there cheaper and sound better than the ex71 s

I'm so confused now its annoying, I've been looking at the Grados that fatreg recommended, they seem awesome, I might have to get a set of them and a set of in ear ones. I like the look of the
Grado SR-80s but the CNET review says that they are not very comfortable to use... Still can't make my mind up between the Sony, Sennheiser, Shure or Etymotics...

This is gonna be tougher than i thought it would be...

Here are some pics to show you what i meabn about the wire coating stripping off the Sony MDR-EX71:
The part thats hanging off, and the strip in my hand, i simply pinched the end with my fingernails and it tore off. The wires are horribly exposed, but it hasmn't affected sound quality any. I've tried using insulating tape, but on such a huge gap it makes the wire too stiff to sit comfortably round the back of my neck.

Its a little worrying mate, how long have you had them and how often would you use them? I wouldn't mind if they lasted a year of heavy use as £20 a year wouldn't be too bad..

Had them since October, I use them every day. If the sound quality wasn't so good i would have binned them ages ago.

I think they're off my list then, I know that they have had heavy use, but I just don't think that Three months is long enough to shell out €40 for, thanks for posting the pics

@ meths & dgi - I really dont think there is a wire problem witht he ex71's. I have used a set over a year and they are still in top condition, and mine are used daily, my gf also has a set whcih are still going strong and a few of my mates. I thin its more how you treat them, but u know them rowing machines you see in gyms have the seat that moves, my wires one went between the rollers and was run over 4-5 times with my weight on it and survived with no damage atall
