Orange do not charge to divert your calls to your voice mail if the system is set correctly. I know as I use the service a lot when abroad.
This should apply to all networks. There should be no cost to divert your call to voice mail. When your phone is switched of or you have a call coming in and you miss it then the call is transfered to voice mail then you are not charged.
You are only charged to have you phone transfered to another mobile / landline.
On Orange you must divert all calls to +447973100123. This is the voice mail number. Not sure what the other networks are but i would prob be able to find out if required. Thanks

I have my voicemail diverted to the Orange voicemail number already. If you have free mintures included in your contract, then Orange won't charge for the calls to your voicemail as it will be taken out from your minutes, but after your inclusive minutes have ran out then effectively you are charged at 10p per minute to call voicemail. I think calls diverted to land-lines and mobiles is charged on the same rate. I not sure how much it costs if your calling your voicemail internationally/roaming through.

Thats a rip off. I have never been charged for calls going to voicemail on O2 and Vodafone. You normally pay to retreive voicemails.

yeh on voicemails if u divert its a service so u dont get charged on any of the UK networks... an the reason why u r charged to divert calls???
Well basically all u r doing is re-diallin a number through ur number when u divert so it uses ur free mins first an then charges per min for the calls outside of ur bundle...

Guys! We are loosing the Plot - this thread was about diverting calls to another number and NOT to voicemail!
Vodafone charge to divert calls to any other number except Voicemail. i have learnt the hard way and have been charged £160 in bills for diverted calls! My fault as I assumed call divert was a free option
The calls were diverted to my Smartnav Sat Nav system which many of you may know works using GPS and 02 Mobile phone signals. Smartnav give you the mobile number for your unit and if you divert your calls to that number they can be answered via the sat nav system.
Now my next step is to take Smartnav to task as they very easliy state "divert your calls to the smartnav number and use your smartnav system as a hands free kit" but no where do they say "NETWORK CHARGES MAY APPLY"

I thought all networks charge to divert calls as the call has to go into and then out of their system.
I think they charge when you divert to another netwok. Here in swaziland it is free or maybe I divert freely. I am on mtn payg and I have nver been charged.
I have two numbers and two phones. The other one is always diverted to my main number. I dont even pay for conference calling.

In the uk you can divert you phone to your own network voice mail for free.
Any other number and you will be charged the standard calling rate (Doesnt come out of your inclusive mins)
If you are abroad and have not set to automatic divert, then you are charged for the call o be returned back to your own voice mail in the uk. Which can be expensive.
as you phone first has to say to the call that you arnt ava, so there is a charge for this, the call then has to be diverted back, so you are then charged for this.
Hope this makes sense
