I carry a 2GB in my w800 and YES, it is to avoid having a stand-alone MP3 player.

Personally I can't wait for the 8GB Duo Pro, then I don't have to decide which songs from my music library I want on my phone.

I can understand that type of memory running multiple apps and programs on a PPC phone. However why would someone need over 2 gigs on a non PDA phone, or better yet even 2 gigs?

I don't get it. Some please enlighten me. Is it to avoid carrying an I pod ?

Everyone's different reo. I have 512MB and already I have to make compromises between what songs and videos I want to have available when out and about listening to music. I also can't use the lower level of compression I want (since I have to make songs smaller so more fit onto the card). If the phone couldn't play mp3's or videos, then there would be no point in having more than 256 or even 128MB. But a mulltimedia phone like the K750 etc can be as useful as an ipod given enough memory.

So you might as well ask, why carry an ipod (or other hard disk based mp3 player)? If one would carry an ipod, then why not carry a device that combines an ipod and a phone in one handset?

I would more put it to you like this: why would you need 2GB or more on a PDA? Afterall 2GB would give you space for an aweful lot of Symbian programs - do you know many pda users who could actually use 2GB of program storage? I think you'll find that peeps with pda's that have large memory cards, more often fill those memory cards with multimedia and not programs.

people carry 2GB of space becuase of the amount and size of their data. you don't need to run mulple apps at the same time (in a PPC) to jsutify you should cary a 2GB memory.

People carry songs, files, pictuer and whatever more. also BTW. you can run multpile app using 10 MB of memory. so do you want to enlighten us by your statement?

so are you enlighten enough?

Great feedback from all. This makes sense to me now.

I'm running a 256 MB card on my K Jam. However all I have is about 40 MP3's.

I guess because I recycle my music so much I have not had the need.

Will a 2 MB card slow down the way my apps open up or is this a myth?

Max AFAIK can be 32GB??? Right?

i think MS DUO PROs use FAT16 as their file system, which means it could have capacities up to 2GB only as stated in this article from microsoft about formatting a memory stick using FAT32 and in this table that summarizes the different types of FAT. i think they've used another file system on PRO DUOs that have more than 2GB...

i myself am dieing to buy this 8gb , but somthing tells me its going to cost a hell of alot of money.

I Myself think ipods are not worth the money , $300 Australian for a 2gb nano. My Dad bought a 2gb MP3 player for about $150,it may not have a big screen and may not say "apple" on it , but it works fine.

At this very moment i have a 1GB memory stick in my K750i , And i want more. I was actualy going to buy the 2GB next week until i found out about the 4 and 8gb.

I have about 250MB's left. Mostly music.

You've got it all wrong. FAT16 has a 2GB limit, FAT32 has a 2 Terabyte limit, somehow I think that's enough for any memory cards I know about.

Duo (or any memory stick) uses the FAT file system, including either FAT16 or FAT32. Obviously, if you have a 4GB memory stick, you will need to use FAT32. Windows will automatically format using FAT32 on partitions bigger than 2GB.
