The service is up here is really good my postmen are great. My England shirt was sent special delivery yesterday and the postman rang the bell at 7am for me to sign for it. I have never had things left on the doorstep even if they are just sent first class they always ring the bell and if nobody is in the leave it next door.

Guess i am just lucky i suppose!

I've never had a problem with any of my post, if i'm not in or don't answer the door they'll sign the signed for/special delivery sheet for me and post it thru. Or if its too big and i'm not in they'll put it down the side of my house (out of sight) or in my trailer (which has a cover, so it can't be seen).

The service is always on time and i've never had any damaged post either.

The problem is normally the sender, alot of the time they blame Royal Mail when they haven't even posted it out. I'm not saying that this is the same for everything that might arrive late, but alot of the time it is especially with eBay goods!

Ps. yes i do work for Royal Mail but on the night shift and in a warehouse so i have nothing to do with deliveries but if it was really that bad, i'd tell you because its at no personal gain to me, i don't care how people percieve the company! If it was really as bad as people try and make them out to be i'd probably let people know and advise them to use a different service!

Well, I think you should be happy that you don't live in London. I think we have a new postie every fortnight, and they just don't give a crap. I live in a flat which has a concierge service (so the post, for all flats, should be handed to the porters). There is in fact a 15cm by 30cm sign right by the door to the lobby, which says: "All mail for (the name of my building) should be delivered to (address of the concierge, with directions, even illustrated...)". The concierge is located 100 meters from the entrance of the lobby, however 50% of the time, the post is just left on the ground in the street.

With regard to RMSD, I have given up. If I ever have to send anything of even slight importance, I use DHL or TNT.

You are still lucky that mails/parcels will 'still' arrive at your end or with that of the recipient - 100% ! At my end . . . it's a 50-50 chance of arrival, specially if it's an 'expensive' one, unless if it's a REGISTERED one, but for ordinary mails it's - !

Thats why I stopped buying 1st class stamps ages ago. In the "Good Old Days" a letter with a First Class stamp on was virtually guaranteed to be delivered the next day, or, at the latest, the day after that. Now you only get your letter almost 5 - 7 days later. Therefore you can just as well save a few pence and wack a second class stamp on it.

I think the service just depends on were you live to be honest! In London i am not surprised the service is that bad, it is great up here, for example Luke sent me something on tuesday just normal first class and it was delivered well before 9am the next day.

In Scotland, the service is pretty good, but by no means perfect! I recieve a lot of goods from London, and they never arrive on time! Plus, they will hire any old pedo junkie to deliver your mail...

Really? I always thought you had to have an unblemished record seen as your working for the Queen!

Nah, around here there is a conveyer belt running from the hostel to the post office, they just throw the losers onto it and next thing you know they are delivering through your post - and probably casing your house!
