They have to be in folders, you cant just dump 'em in there.

The way I see it.. it's just easier to use Disc2Phone. Too bad it's probably much slower than other methods :/
I guess the slowness of transfer speed is justified by the increased ease of the process.

Just want to say that I use Windows Media Player to rip my music from CD's to the PC (as WMA files Lossless) then use D2P to transfer them to the phone (down to 128 Kbps) and they always remain in the same order as on the album with all the tags correctly labeled as are all the created folders.
Needless to say, I've
NEVER had to go to the bother of manually creating folders (a very un-necessary and labourious task when you have 150+ artists!).
However, this only worked on my W800i after installing the latest software and using the D2P program downloaded from the SE website rather than the one supplied on the supplied CD (makes a good coaster though).
(I now have a W810i and straight from the box it all worked perfectly)

Just wondering.. you mentioned that you used Disc2Phone. If so, why did you still rename your folders?

Whoa! AWESOME! I go the best of both worlds.. it turns out Disc2Phone *DOES* support direct transfers to a plugged in memory stick via card reader.. I thought you could only use Disc2Phone when the phone is connected through USB and the memory stick is in it, which is pretty slow.. but connecting the memory stick to a card reader and transferring that way is blazing fast and works very well
