That's annoying. SE are really starting to annoy me with this kind of thing now where you only get a limited set of features based on which sony corporation brand your handset has plastered on it.

Don't they understand that the people who buy their phones are often higher end users who know what they want... and they want everything! Showing they can do it easily by having it on the prototype and then taking it out for branding reasons just rubs salt into the wound.

I wonder how long it will take another manufacturer to realise what's happening and start to supply a phone that does do everything.
If they did, i'd buy it, and i'm sure lots of other people would to.

bummer. When they realize TrackID + Sony Connect music store doesnt make as much as they wouldve if they deployed it on all handsets, they'll likely do so on a future firmware upgrade

I think you'll find that it'd be suicidal to market every phone with every single feature available, because then that removes applicability with market brackets. The W850 and W950 will have these features, but non-walkman phones will not have walkman features. Cannibalisation is avoided across a product spectrum by ensuring differing products have differing features, and it's ridiculous to suggest that every product should have every feature..

yes, apart from gprs charges, which shouldn't be much.

hmm....no at a good guess it may be free / very small fee for generic handset users, but if you buy the phone subsidised by a network then the more of the chance is, that you will have to pay a subscription fee to the network provider. and wait a second! gprs charges! it'll be umts charges with a k800i if your in 3g area! - and also another thing...how big is a recording of 30secs of a song or something? it must be about 200kb or something - thats gonna cost ok....0.78x200=156 so that means that (taking into fact it will be likely to be different to 200kb (probably smaller tbh i'm not good at estimates)) on vodafone UK, pay-as-you-go - the charge of sending this to them will be £1.56 - that's a rip off! just record it and then get home to send, or ask someone! or just...not bother...it's only a song so it doesn't really matter - you not gonna die from it!
