How about we still continue as members to keep posting news arcticles and maybe get a moderator, like you massuer, to decide on whether it is suitable for posting up on the main page?

i personally read the begining of this thread in a very different manner to masseur etc.... i too miss Axxxr's news post... others have tried and quite frankly i havent found them any where near as informative... the way in which they were produced before was excellent!

(and i really aint knocking others attempts, i just think it was done so well before, its almost impossible to top.... )

I feel this not as a moan, but as a vote of confidence for axxxr, he did a great job and im sure he'll be happy to know hes still missed...

The problem with posting our own news is teh copyright infrigments we can sometimes cross, i for one donot know the LAws on this one

I think it's actually like you are just quoting it, not claiming it as your own work or making money from it. So it might be alright. I think to be proper, one should quote the source as well as the news story when posting news stories.

no, its not alright to just copy it here, even if you post a link to the original

for example, here is the BBC Copyright Notice where it is made clear that any copy is only for personal non-commercial use. This would not therefore include posting it up on another site.

Most online sites have such a notice and even if they do not explicitly state this, it will be implied by some other means such as a simple copyright statement etc

some sites state that you can paraphase their text, but sometimes they even limit how much can be paraphrased.

its a complicated area and generally its best to put a few words of your own and link people to the full details

press releases, on the other hand, are perfectly ok to reproduce because that is their purpose.

I know you're not moaning and I miss it too, but there it is and we have to move on.

people probably got lazy because of the good job being done before but I can see that some good effort is starting to be put in by other people now

I fully agree with masseur.

Mods here are just members as we are. The only difference is their increased responsability and effort.

If people miss axxxr and his news, why don't you take the iniciative a work as axxxr did, or you will only do it if you want the "news editor" title?

I own a website with a small forum in it, and i get to the conclusion that people are always trying to be the first and/or get something in return if they do something.

This is why we can call Esato a community, because everybody give their contribution without expecting anything in return.

Bottom line:
If you don't do it, why should others do it?
