No brand test fones enough long, cos of the market race. All fones have bugs, less or more, there will be never a perfect fone. This message was posted from a Nokia

The reason it is delayed is also, that there still are not very many applications availble for it, because all the software for UIQ3.0 has to be written. UIQ2.X apps are not compatible.

that reason didn't stop the M600 coming available, but I don't think that is the case any more anyway.

The M600 comes with a memory stick full of trial versions of many popular applications including the handy series, acm, IM+, a chess game (the phone comes with quadrapop installed) and all sorts and I have found plenty of other apps including a decent file manager and also I have been involved with beta testing a couple of apps being upgraded to UIQ3

limited software was a reason some months ago but I don't feel that to be the case any more

someone mentioned wifi being an issue but when I saw the P990 a day after announcement last year, that seemed to be the one thing I tried that did work well.

anyway, its clear the P990 is coming in the next month or so and if the M600 is anything to go by I reckon its gonna be worth the wait

yep, developers have had lot's more time than they expected to get products to market for UIQ3, so I hardly think application support is a reason for the hold up.

No application support was not the hold up.... in the last end it was the W-Lan and especially the camera.... things what the M600i misses.. (think what you want to think right now)...

You have to know that Symbian V9.1 is completely new! If you compared with your pc the step between V9.x and 8.x is like between MS dos and Windows XP! The guys of series60 where just a little bit quicker but the N-series are not bug free... I hope the P990i will but I doubt... at least for the first couple of months (look @ the M600i)

What do you mean by 'completely new'? Nokia sold the first Symbian 9.1 cells in April ! And it was not the N-series (which came in may). Yes, SE was first to trumpet the 9.1 (look at the first post of the P990i tread). After realising the trouble at hand, SE quickly 'patched' together the 'M' in a bit to be the first as promissed (very important in the fast living cell market) Who remembers the fight of the 2 companies with the P800 announced first and the 7650-announced just after the P800 but released months before it. (Subsequently nokia went on and not only walked all over SE's P-series but also made the S60 the most used 'smart cell' OS by far. Now it looks like history repeates itself all over again. Also SE's OS has another problem to face (in my opinion even bigger then Nokia and S60) That's no other then brother Bill's WM5. The Symbian version of SE and the palmtop/cellphone version of windows are intendet for exactly the same market segment. Both companies are aware of this. This message was posted from a Nokia

By completely new I mean Symbian V8.x -> V9.x is not just an update/upgrade of the OS... it has been entirely new written (don't know how to explain in english) but they started from scratch.

Can anyone with a reliable source tell me how good the P990's wifi actually is? The wifi on the N80, whilst being quite nice as an extra feature, has a range of about 10-15 metres on the same AP that will happily do 100 (boosted signal strength plus an expensive omni). I run a WISP (wireless ISP), and was kind of hoping I could use the phone to test signal penetration up to an extent, but the reception is ridiculously low in comparison to other devices.
Also the reception on the bloody thing is kinda crap anyway. I was pleasantly surprised my existing 2G sim card picked up the 3G signal straight away, but sadly, at least on Vodafone, it drops in and out so much it's on GPRS 95% of the time!
