If anyone has any other ideas i'd be grateful. I had a 1GB pro duo that i saved my contacts to then transfered all data to micro m2 1GB.
I had a feeling that the contact was in the memory twice as this in my opinion is the only reason for not playing what i am asking it to play, but again no.
Very annoying as i have 271 contacts and EVERYONE has it's own ringtone. Takes me hours to do, but when my bird rings me i think it's an unknown number or one not stored.
VERY VERY anoying!!!!!!!!!!
I have exactly the same problem

I've got the same problem - it's getting very frustrating. There seem to be alot of them (problems) in the k800i....

OK PEOPLE, I FOUND THE SOLUTION (at least for me)
Turns out, this whole probloem was from syncing my contacts with my macbook pro. I used the K800i isync plugin and while it worked with contacts and their pics, i couldn't for the life of me figure out the contact ringtone problem. After deleting and saving 2 contacts from scratch and attaching their ringtones, everything worked like a charm. Sucks for poeple who have a ringtone for every contact, but for me it's a matter of around contacts...
hope this helps

Well i don't understand that last post???
I am getting some new software/hardware in around 10 days so i'll de-brand mine and update the software. I reckon this will cure it. I'll let you all know of course!!!

I think what he was saying that he found the solution. Obviously he is using a Mac, as am I and I do not have the ringing tone problem. It could be a SE/Windows thing. (Save the Mac vs. Windows flames).
Just as a test, I deleted all of my contacts, re-synced them using a plugin (SyncML) for iSync on my Mac, i set up some contacts and ringing tones and they all worked perfectly.
This is obviously a bug and I am sure SE will fix it, so you like the rest of us will have to wait until the fix comes out.

As i was coming from a W810i i moved all the data from my 1GB pro duo to my new 1GB micro m2, using 2 card readers.
I will state that i didn't back up the contacts to the pro duo then do as before, i got my W810i and bluetoothed the contacts to my K800i.
This is what i don't understand? I even deleted some of the contacts and entered them from scratch and the ringtone problem is still there!
Never had a problem with an se handset prior and i currently own 2. A W900i and a K800i.
I have even deleted the whole contacts list from either handset and then sent them all again. Still no joy. Like you say handset must have a bug. As i have mentioned before i will update software in a few days or de-brand it and see if it cures it. I will post results in due course.
My sim free handset is from the Maldives and i have had it for 6 weeks. Got a 2 year international warranty with it too so i am still happy with the handset.

Did anyone find an answer to this?
I got my K790 about a month ago. Contact-specific ringtones were working just fine, until I decided to add a picture to one of the contacts. After that, I only get the picture for the contact, not her ringtone.
I tried:
1- deleting the picture and reseting the ringtone
2- deleting the ringtone and adding it again
3- deleting the contact and creating it again (both from scratch and via SE PC Suite Sync)
Weirdest thing is, now I can't set specific ringtones for any of my contacts. They all play the default ringtone.
As far as anyone can tell, the ringtones are set for each contact - when you try to edit the contact, the ringtone is there.
Current software version:
CXC1250477
R1JC002
070122
Sony Ericsson
When I select, Settings->General->Update Service->"Search for Update", it says I have the latest software.
Any clues to what may be going on here?
Thanks
