I've got this problem at the minute, its absolutely horrendous and has been doing my head in since last night. I really rely and depend on my Applications and Games as well. They are two of the main features why I bought the phone.
Does anyone have any idea to fix this problem? I've got R1ED001 firmware update on O2 - did that through SEUS. Should I update through Wotan to the newest firmware, can you do this through paypal to get an account?
This is extremely irritating bug. I'm on O2 Contract although do not have Insurance with O2 but merely the 24 month warranty with Sony Ericsson. Should I phone them and discuss with an operator or am I wasting my time?
Also. If I do a firmware update via wotan, does that mean that I will no longer be able to use SEUS again?
Appreciate any responses given.

I've had the same problem twice on an O2 K800.
First time it happened (within a month of purchase) I phoned SE and they said return it to the shop which I did and they gave me a new phone.
It recently happened again (I've had my phone since July), so I decided to upgrade the firmware through Wotan and everything then worked fine again.
If you do upgrade via Wotan, make sure you backup everything you need as you lose everything that is saved on your phone. Also don't forget to backup your Calendar and Contacts.
Use MyPhoneExplorer (http://www.fjsoft.at/) to backup your Calendar and SMS Messages. There's a feature on the phone to backup you Contacts (See Contacts -> Options -> Advanced -> Backup to MS)
My understanding from reading this forum is you will be able to update via SEUS after performing a WOTAN firmware upgrade.
Please be aware that if you update via WOTAN you lose all the O2 branding.
Good luck!

Ive got the same prob now...
cannot even access games or apps folder. Have tried reboot, master reset three times, formated memory card, creating games & applications folder manually in phone memory & card memory.. there is no fix
the only solution i see is to reflash the phone. which is why SE should have kept the option to "reflash anyway" in SEUS..
I will email SE and see what they say, otherwise its going back for a new one.
If anyone has had this prob and has managed to fix without reflashing, please post it !!!!!

Hi all,
I posted this same problem (operation failed when attempting to open folders or install Java apps) in about 3/4 threads on here a while back - I was advised the following:
1) Take out the battery for a while
2) Try a Master Reset
3) Try another sim
4) Using SE File manager create 2 new folders called "Games" and "Applications" in the root directory of the phone memory
5) Update with new firmware when available
I can categoricaly say 1), 2), 3), 4) and 5) DID NOT solve my problem.
As many others, I called O2 and they advised me it was a known issue. If you are an O2 select customer (meaning you spend a lot on phone calls and have been with them a while) they will offer an immediate replacement with a reconditioned phone. If you kick and scream they will offer you a brand new factory sealed phone (what I got).
I have to admit, I didnt try flashing with WOTAN, but SEUS did upgrade the f/w, but didn't fix the problem. the only other thing is to send it to SE for warranty repair. I opted for the free replacement, this meant I wasn't without the phone for any period of time.
Hope this helps a little.

Been having the same problem, presumably because I took the USB cable out too early after sending some files over. Tried all the tips in this thread, couldn't use SEUS (already have the latest firmware) so ended up doing another Wotan re-flash. Everything fine again. I do wish SE would include options for making backups of messages, RSS feeds and bookmarks.

I still don't know why this Operation Failed bug only occurs on some phones, and to my surprise, in random. Mine is just OK no matter how many times I plug-unplug the USB cable. I am a heavy user of Opera Mini---it means I access the application folder very very frequently..and it just works like a charm. Mine is SIM-free, APAC customisation, R1ED001 CHINA_WI. Does it matter?
