@P900 lover

Its definitely worth following up if you were charged on a regular basis.

A friend of mine done two of his previous banks and got hundreds back altogether. The process took a couple of months but it was worth it.

The bank may issue you threats of closing your bank account down but thats all they are threats.

Its easier to move your bank account now, even if you have an overdraft.

After all, all you are doing by moving your overdraft is denying your current bank the money they make from you.

EDIT. he just emailed me to say he's got back around £500 so far and is still in talks with Abbey, who have 14 days to cough up before it goes to court.

Not bad going for sending a few pre-written letters.

Course not i did not mean anything by my comments, sorry if i offended you. I understand it is a big deal for some people and is worth the effort , i was just saying that from my point of view it isn't worth the bother.

Although i just got my student bank account today so i will probably be made to eat these words in 3 years time lol, good luck i hope you get everything back of your bank.

this is exactly the boat I am in, as a student its ridiculous they should charge you.

The last oneI got was last month, I went over my overdraft by £1.55...the result Abbey charged me £50 for that, I am fuming!!

the worst month is when I was really in trouble and I called them to tell them as I had been well underpaid from work and they didnt give a crap resulted in me getting about £125 of charges in one month alone, I explained I only work 12 hours per week and I wont even be able to pay it next time round as I had other outgoings now, no help at all so now I want to claim all the money back!!

any advice would be appreciated

That is rather crap, my advice change banks. I just changed from my Lloyds current account to a Lloyds student account yesterday, you get £1000 overdraft and they won't charge you if you go over the first time and it is interest free and if you deposit £500 into it by 31st October you get a free Apple 512mb Shuffle!

The BBC has kindly posted a step-by-step-guide to getting back your money from the banks.

Thanks Beeb!
