> When will SE change charger connector?
Bookmark topic
i have to admit, that i never had problems with se ports ( i use it for chearging mainly, not that often to plug it in pc ) its really intresting, that a k600 was worth for an extra port, but k800 not. for many of u, who use usb probably more often then me, should be disturbing. i dont take care if se gonna change it or not, i just wish that the /// way will be supported ( just as in the actual se models ), that to unplug the charger, an extra move is needed ( pull up ) for secure connection.

I've had exactly the same problem as the original poster, and in fact have a broken charger - and I haven't misused, abused or dropped it afaik.
On of those spring-loaded prongs has gotten stuck inside the charger itself - not sure if the spring's gone or it's simply jammed, it seems to me to be very fllimsy and delicate, even more so than the old connector. I've had problems with phones with the previous connector too, T68i, T610, K700i and I think my old S700i had the problem where you had to waggle the connector to get it to charge, then as soon as you put it down it stopped, etc etc.
I've never had a problem with Nokia chargers/ports, if I have, it's been either software or something like moisture damage, I also liked the fact that often you can swap Nokia charger ports, they're not part of the motherboard so if you did have a problem simply get another one and swap it over. Also any charger from the 5110 up to present will work with pretty much any other Nokia!

@ P800! & BobaFett
Sorry to make this assumption n correct me if I'm wrong, but i feel that your statements seem a little biased towards SE vs Nokia.
The simple statement that Nokia charging connector are more fragile is simply dead on wrong. I have used both these brands thru experience have proved this statement wrong beyond a doubt. Also it's obvious from plain sight that the Nokia charging connector is more robust than SE. This has nothing to do with the method of removing SE connector by tilting, that is standard good usage procedures which i think everyone here knows.
Consider this, the SE charging connector relies on the dexterity and tention of the 2 plastic progs on the sides. While Nokia charging connector is using the proven design which is also used my a majority of other electrical products.
Problem 1. Plastic do not hold up very well against tention/pressure. Even after a period of a few moths of normal use, the plastic progs losed it's stiffness. This is a fact.
Problem 2. Coupled with the fact that contacts of the charging connector are only a fraction of an mm wide equates to bad contact because the smaller the surface area the more pressure is required to ensure a good stable contact which in itself due to other factors like weather the surface is clean or naturally oxidized if u live in a humid climate.
Regardless of this, the simple fact is that the charging connector design like that of Nokia's are more robust and secure, and u don't have to worry about cleaning n such.
Correct me if im wrong, but why should a user even have worry about cleaning contacts just to charge their phone in the first place? Something which most of us do every 2 or 3 days? To me it just sounds absurd that this cleaning is expected of the end user, more like what a SE tech would do while servicing a phone.
I'm not saying that the reason for bad contact is because it gets dirty, the statement I made is in response to people who claim that help.
I think it comes down to 2 points.
1. Incredibly small surface area contact on the charging pins.
2. Inadequate securing mechanism for their choice of contact design.
Both of which can be fixed by my idea in my previous post.

@ BobaFett
Charging connector of Nokia is more secure n tighter than the SE.
I can hang my Nokia upside down as u said, wihtout any worries of it dropping.
Another reason y i think your statement is biased, is because that is simply an unreasonable thing to say.
For one thing it depends on what model of phone u are talking about.
Try do that with a SE P series phone, it will definitely drop even if u shake it a little. Same goes for example, doing that with a Nokia N70.
However to prove your own point, try taking models that are appropriate such as a SE K500 vs Nokia 6230.
Dangle both and it's a safe bet that both won't drop.
HOWEVER, the difference is I can assure u that the SE phone will not be on charging status while the Nokia will. Point made.

Hmm. I've never experienced this problem. Since I owned a T28, right upto this K750 - no issues with the connector. What are you guys doing with your handsets, geez? I do prefer the old style charger, however. Much more rock solid.

@ BobaFett
It was with regards to your comment saying that the SE connector is more secure than Nokia.
So i simply put it to u that if u do dangle it as u described, the SE will not show a charging status cos of the poorly design contacts while the Nokia will still be charging.
@ neonismo
For myself, i have not abused/mistreated my phones in anyway. Always removed the connector the right way by tilting first. It's just a poor design i guess. Tho the fact that u have not experienced any such problems after so long really puts me to envy.
Not to take offence, but all the people/friends i know personally who have used or are using SE phones complain to me about the same problem when i ask them about it. Some even within 3 months of buying use.
Yes i did mean ALL of them, not some.

As I wrote in an earlier post: I have never experienced any kind of problems concerning the charger connectors on any Ericsson or Sony Ericsson phone.
So it seems to be quite individual, wich is not remarcable in any way. There are certainly minor differences between different production batches. And there are certainly major differences between different users.

@x2 doesnt show charging status? sorry, i am might be stupid, but i do see on both devices when its charging... next to it, se one is more advanced ( thx to /// ) cos i can check the actual status of the batt, on nokia the bars are moving constantly, so its impossible to say, what level in the batt on.
