...I don't think I'm buying stuff to look 'cool' or anything like that, it could be something stupid like looking forward to getting all those nice parcels, and that good feeling when you fix a phone and it works great. Problem is I then end up keeping the phone rather than selling it on!
As with all addictions and comfort behaviour, you get an emotional payoff for doing it. Try substituting the addictive behaviour for one less damaging and making changes to your habits and environment to make it harder to buy. Put a post-it note on your computer reminding you of the changes you've made.

@50cent - if only it was that simple!
I'm staying off it as much as poss, I think that fact it's going to start causing serious arguments and have ramifications for paying bills is a pretty good motivating factor!
Just doing some listing at the moment, do more selling rather than buying (that can get addictive too!)
Strange thing is, I don't generally have an addictive personality, I never gamble, barely drink, it seems that gadgets, Ebay and fags are my poisons!

I wonder if part of it for me is the 'image' a certain phone gives - often I'll want a phone after seeing someone with it, perhaps someone I see as being happy or contented, could be something subconcious in me thinking that I'd be happier with a certain phone - even if it's an older or worse-specced phone than what I currently have.
Also, on the other hand is wanting the latest 'gadget', phone with better and more features and thinking that would make me happier in some way, but of course it doesn't.
Ebay, and to an extent the market here gives me the opportunity to get these items, and be damned to the concequences at times, think I need to find another coping mechanism, develop further one of my hobbies which I currently only dabble in and get me away from Ebay more!

I used to feel a bit addicted to ebay too. Bought a lot online, but i sold some things too. But for some strange reason it was always hard to sell stuff after i got it. Even when i bought it to sell. Luckily i got busy at work and with my study so i had less time to spend at ebay.

I know what you mean i get a buzz when i get stuff in the post lol, i wouldn't worry too much you not the only one believe me. Least you actually sell stuff on there.
I only buy things which is alot worse, maybe i should get selling but it is so expensive. By the time you have sold stuff and then all the listing fees it just isn't worth it really.
Maybe you could lower your overdraft at the bank and that will stop the temptation a little. Or find another hobbie which you can concentrate on so you are not as tempted to spend.
I had a £1000 overdraft and i reduced it to £250 so i would not go into it, banks are terrible. I have £250 on my credit card to pay and they just increased the limit on it because i am not using it, from £2500 up to £3500, i am only 21 lol.
DAMN THE BANK!!!

I can get addicted to ebay too, I know the situation you're in...
I think someone that has a problem with bidding is
rajanmike
He's got 106 pages of bidding listed....!
Anyway, at least the overdraft is only in the £XXX's not the £XXXX's

Yep, I'm actually up against my overdraft limit again this month
So stupid, I don't think I've even the money to post my latest Ebay sales either when they finish - if people pay via paypal it would take 3-4 working days for the money to appear in my account, I suppose a cheque would be OK as I'd wait for it to clear before posting!
I've even over the last week bought another couple of phones - a K750i that hopefully just needs a new screen, bargain at £25.50 inc. postage, (plus a replacement screen - should get both tomorrow hopefully) and a 6230i for £36 del that has a couple of faulty keys - hopefully just needs a new keypad pcb for a few quid and nothing more sinister!
I might try to keep some of the faulty phone buying selling going.... as long as it's only a few phones, and that I SELL them on again, like Bianca said I often buy these things with the intention of fixing and selling... then end up thinking 'this is a nice phone', and hold onto it!
