no, I've not run such tests, sorry

I'm not one of those battery worry warts. I use my devices in the way I want to use them and let the battery take care of itself. If I need to carry a spare battery/usb charger/whatever so that I can continue to use the device the way I want to rather than be driven by battery consumption then so be it.

Unfortunately the P990 is the first phone for years and years that I have felt the need to carry a spare battery

Agreed and i feel the same with my k800i as well, as i said previously im waiting for the extended life batteries to come out..hopefully soon as i would definitely get one for the p990i and one for the k800i.

Another thing ive noticed about the p990i...is the screen...anyone notice that its quite terrible when in sunlight or in a bright place...doesnt seem to make much of a difference if your using a dark theme or light theme. But quite hard to read anything on the screen if your using it outside or in a bright area.

Yeah, can see where you are coming from.
At the same time, I would leave docking stations at work and surf & listen to music all the way in and out from work, thereby using a lot of battery life (and then forget to charge at night), hence my 'battery worry wort' approach. (not heard that one before). Horses for courses really.

Do unused spare batteries keep a decent amount of charge for a few days ?

@ctrl A

I carry a spare battery for my P910i and in an emergency I use it. When I actually use it it is at 100% charged as I last left it. This could be days/week/months. So I think that the battery stays and doesn't drain away. I'm no technical expert though.

When my K700 is on stand-by (black screen) and I press the volume buttons on the leftside of the phone, it shows time and icons for missed calls and received messages.

Does the P990 do something similar?

The k800i i have does not do this, but my w810i does show the clock and any missed calls.
The P990i is exactly the same, it will bring up the screen although its dull but all it shows is the time and asks you if you want to disable the keylock. For missed calls, emails/sms/mms the led on the unit flashes...that is all. I havent seen any icons or such like actually appear on the screen when you press a button.
