yeh, but fairy your out of touch, now allot of kids will just press the button for a laugh, most just as jokers, you can say teach them to use it responsibly but they won't. When i was youger i did lots of stupid stuff and I still so even if I know its important

Whilst there is an "age" limit on MSN in the T&C, its like an a child going to a 15 Rated Film and being totally under age. It cant be policed.
So the idea is good and potentially in the future something better and less exploited maybe the answer to help with Paedophiles...
The debate isnt about the Panic Button, it revolves around the juveniles that decide to tamper with it.
But more to the point, MSN need to creat a product that parents feel safe having their kids using....
Its about money isnt it?
@ Slugworth - Just curious, where do you live? Everest?

@Luke, I doubt I am out of touch, Im in my mid twenties and I have a 3 year old!!
And while there are kids out there that will mess around, there are also kids that wont.
Its a case of if your child isnt sensible enough to understand msn, then they shouldnt be on it in the first place!

lol I duno its surprising most people have no idea whats going on in their kids minds. No matter what you think of them they are completly different to what their parents think (or will be)
Most kids are not going to be mature enough to be able to use such a button, you can imagine friends who get in a argument just pressing the button to try to annoy the toher waseing important police time

completely agree with you mate...my parents thought i was going to be a doctor....they were absolutely sure of it,they even told the whole world about it....but i had other things in mind.
Every parent things their kids are angels and could do no wrong...sorry but thats simply a fantasy.

IMHO, teaching children to be careful online, use their common sense and to be taught danger signs that someone may not be who they say they are, or for any innapropriate language or suggestions would be better than a button which could be abused, and if it's abused too much then the idea would end up being abandoned due to the amount of police time wasted.

No chance!! I know my child is no angel!!!!
But I also know I wont let her go on msn unless i am sitting in same room as her.
Just the way I was bought up, and will bring her up. Each parent is different I suppose.

@ fairy, the one thing is you can't impose on your kids privacy when she gets older say 12/13 otherwise you drive them away... thats the thing, I don't know when I started using msn at the age of ten I hated computers, I mean really hated them, but now I have over 2k of computer equipment easily lol... back to the subject, when i started I was always very cautious of it I'm not sure why but now I just add anyoen who adds me, its quite odd, but the amount of people who are like 10 who add me its quite scary, why would a 10 year old want to add a 18year old...?

Come one, it's so obvious that this button is going to be abused. Never mind that we'd never or never have done (if you were 14), it's those idiots who'll waste time and render it useless.
It should be the parent's job to monitor their children's behaviour and should set limits. As much as this button is trying to help, the bottom line is that big corporations shouldn't be responsible for this type of problem.
