Ok let me try and transfer something right now and see how fast its going, I have a macbook pro as well, il transfer an iso of the beta vista somewhere in the region of 2Gb.

@spikeyjac you have to remember that when you writing to flash memory its slower, if you not using a mac I wouldnt worry to much about firewire vs usb 2, as USB 2 is going to be cheaper and I will fair at the same speed as firewire.
Like luke said its something to do with the drivers in mac, here is an interesting article I just read. Hope this helps.
