Did you read my previous post? I opened a special function in my router.
I also posted before that i use darwin stream server....

Oops, sorry, so you did, missed that, I didn't realise Apple did a free server, I thought we'd have to use Real's server or Helix server.

So you couldn't watch streams off the internet (such as the Real streams on BBC.co.uk) before putting your phone in a DMZ, but you can now?

i could only play the 3gp, as the mp4 had doggy encoding. when i streamed some other mp4 files i added they did have sound in wifi, but they took forever to start, so i closed the whole project down. planning on getting an 8gb msduo card, so i have no use for low quality streams.

yes, opening the dmz for just the internal ip of the phone let me see streams from svt (swedish tv) and other places. the dmz is good because it is for one internal ip only, so only the phone has full access to the net both ways through the firewall.

Cheers for the reply johnex.

I didn't have problems with slow starting on the sample mp4 files, just the missing sound.

I tried a few mp4 files of my own, properly hinted for streaming, and got no sound on those either (mpeg-4 video and lc-aac audio).

It's a shame really, i was going to set up a local network website to index my movies and generate rstp links for them to select on the phone. One click remote video viewing basically.

It'd be quite cool to be able to stream movies to the P990 from anywhere in the house, without having to load up the memory card everytime i wanted to see something. Videos are really very watchable on the P990's screen.

I'm going to get in touch with SE about this, and see if it (aac audio in streamed videos) can be sorted out in a firmware update. I'll ressurect this thread when i have news.

use the usual aac codec that can be selected in super, it might be the lc-aac that is the problem. as i said, i did have sound in the videos, also, all the videos from streaming sites.

Just wondering if there are any updates on the correct format. I have my darwin server up and running on fedor c6 (as of yesterday). I am working to get the mpeg4ip suite up and running which uses ffmpeg for encoding. I am just trying to determine what format to encode to mp4 to get the audio working. I have encoded a couple clips and the video quality is good, just no audio.

I did just update the firmware on my phone so I am hopeing this will help out. The initial sample_100kbit.mp4 still did not have audio.

What software do you guys use to encode with and what pixel ratio, video bitrate, audio bitrate and audio codec are you using?

Thanks,

aka

Hi!
I use the program super. it's a free program and works pretty well. google for "video compression super" or something like that..
The p990 has a screen that's 320x240 so thats a good format to use.

I often use btwn 400kbit/s - 700kbit/s depending on the source. There is no use to use higher bitrate then the source.

I have good news. I've managed to get Orb (www.orb.com) working with my P990i!!! Streaming of all audio and video files over wifi from my computer in Switzerland works perfectly here in California, where I am spending some days.

Just make sure your computer is up and running with the Orb server online. Point your phone browser at "mycast.orb.com" and log in using your Orb username and password. Then go to settings and select the streaming option and pick Real Media as your format.

Then, select a video or audio file from your library and click on it and let the speed test run to determine the best possible connection settings for you. After this, you will have to click again on any media file. This time, the system will propose to download a stream.rm file to your phone. Accept the download. Then, on the download manager, select the stream.rm file you just downloaded and open it (move your jogdial until the file is selected, then open the upper menu and click "open"). This will start your video viewer and your media will start streaming beautifully to your phone.

Before you select a new file, delete the old stream.rm file, otherwise, the new file will be called stream_1, then stream_2 and you will end up having a lot of useless files on your phone.

I have managed to listen to MP3's, view my webcam, photos and videos of any kind!!! This is GREAT. I have not tested this on GPRS or UMTS, so if anyone does, please post your results,

I hope this helps anyone! Cheers,

Arubinst
