i'm still having problems too.
my phone just times out when i try to connect. i'm on o2 using an M600i anybody using the same managed to get it to work?
I assume you have:
- enabled your Gmail account for POP3 from settings at Gmail.com
- you have used all the settings Google provide inc. the port numbers and the need for SSL etc
Now make sure you are not using a proxy server for your O2 internet conneciton. You can check this from the Connection Manager on the M600. Also make sure you not using a WAP O2 connection!
Edit: Masseur, I was compiling my post while you posted!

I'm having the o2 problem. You say not to use a Wap o2 connection. however this is the only connection that i have to access the web etc on this phone.
i am on o2 payasyou go. i have a normal 2g sim. internet works fine as does o2 email and mms.
however gmail is the problem. nothing happens when i look for mail, it just says connectiong and never finds anything. which connection do i use, if not the WAP one?

@Sexygenius
O2 pay and go will not work. it does not offer the 'mobile' services that you need. E.g. I limits the types of connection you can get. This also stop RemoteSync and otehr things working properly.
O2 will not enable mobile service for pay and go.
best bet.... change operators !

You cant unfortunately
You can get Hotmail via pop3 but you need to pay for it (or borrow someones account from about 2 years ago when pop access was free!)

yay! disabled pop access on the website then enabled it again now it works a treat - although i am a little confused as to why i recieved a message that i SENT to somebody?
I think it's because when you send a message from your phone, gmail will store the reply on your email account - and it appears like new message. And so when your phone connects to gmail to see if there are new messages, it'll download your reply as a new message as well. You can use the filters in gmail to resolve this i think.
It happens to me as well on my blackberry
Try this link for a solution :

Hi
I recently got a M600 and cannot get gmail to work.. i followed the advice on this thread but still no luck, i have the same problem as Mobman as discribed in this thread, time out, cannot connect etc. I 'm with o2 on contract and have only one gprs internet connection account which works fine with everything else.
Any further help would be great.

Check your Internet settings.
Is your o2 contract using wap.co.uk to connect or mobile.co.uk ?
(if wap.co.uk then thats your problem.)
