Perfectly normal effect with polarizing display and glasses.
I am not sure about the technology behind modern color screens, but classic monochrome LCD displays work by having the liquid crystals changing polarization when an electric current flows through them or not, blocking or letting through light polarized by the polarizing glass covering them.
Polarizing sunglasses filter out light polarized horizontally, to reduce light reflected from the ground.

I always buy polarised sun glasses and noticed this ages ago. But, I wasn't surprised as all LCD screens do this. This is because they use a polarising filIter. Polarising filtes work by filtering out horizontal light. At the right angle they they block all light coming from an lcd. Have a look at
www.howsuffworks.com and you can find a good run down on how polarised filters work. It's handy thing to know this happens as you can use this check if Sunglasses are polarised when buying new ones.
