if you turn off the GPRS monitoring (circuit switched only) it doesn't really affect phone performance in the sense that the phone will switch it on whenever it is needed anyway. it might save you a tiny amount of battery life too, although i doubt it is perceptible. i switch mine off since my networks detaches the gprs signal anyway after a certain amount of idle time and i don't like seeing that empty white triangle.
with 3G tho, you would be disabling the function altogether. i turn my 3G off and just made a shortcut to it so i can easily turn it back on when i need it for accessing the net. 3G supposedly uses up to 10% more power so this makes a bigger power-saving difference than the GPRS off thing.
the only hitch with turning 3G off is that you wouldn't be able to receive video calls. but since i don't make video calls anyway, it doesn't matter to me.

I turn off 3G too whenever i don't need it. That really extends standby time. With only gsm & gprs on, btw, the K610 batt indicator is like a rock - it hardly moves. Great battery performance.

Why do you talk such crap? You can easily turn it off. Have you gone:
Settings --->Mobile Networks --> GSM/3G Networks ---> GSM ONLY??
Survey says: NO!!!!!!
if you do not know, stop spreading crap.

This is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Nothing I have read has topped this. If I have one free minute will my battery be dead? Minutes and battery life are not the same thing nor are they comparable. Someone please take his phone from him before he hurts himself.
