i reckon it is part of their strategy to make them grow larger. Part of the reason why SE does that is because they've been growing with one-shot wonderer like T68-T610-K700-K750-K800!!! how many years is that? hate it or love it, K800 will make the best seller i guess (which i can't believe it myself, i used to hate it, now i love it). It is not at all dissapointing. They've done good job for this year. They just trying to expand the market that's it. I will expect next year will be really interesting for SE. Don't u guys realise? SE's mid-low end already become better as they adopted K750's tech into different models and make them as mid-low end. K750!! K750!! it was the best phone last year, now it only turns out to be mid-low end range. Even some of the mid-low end has a better things to offer than K750, like the new web browser.

SE had been focussing in a lot of different stuffs this year, it means, they have become busier than last year, they got more to do, this is part of the reason why SE release less high-end model, they just don't have enough money for it. Unlike Nokia, they can always sit back and relax even if the other company started to get closer, then they can strike back with everything they can do.

If you look closer into detail: SE indeed do alotttt of market research, they really really know what ppl need (in general, not tech savvy like us), and they give them what they exactly need. They know they will have to compete with nokia, that's why alot of SE's product is aimed for youth. Youth has not really know anything about Nokia yet, so they can switch to SE quite easily. If you are talking about ppl age 20-50s, they already know nokia, they only want nokia. But now, the condition has changed. in 2003, when i first own T610, i hardly see anyone is using SE phones. Now, K800, K750 is one of the most popular model here. That's because SE is giving ppl what they need, what they want, thats where the money had been spent on.

If you look at nokia, Do you think they are giving ppl what they need? somehow yes, they know ppl complaint about the size for N93, having think about it, they should know it by themselves, they don't even need research to make them think that they need smaller phone. Look at N95.. what's the market segment is going to be? is it going to be a mass product? No way. Look at the spec you know the price. Do you think you need all the features? not really, which country has HSDPA now? Australia? Indonesia? America? Singapore? Malaysia? Thailand? Vietnam? Maybe some european countries? Imagine that you are Australian and you buy the phone.. HSDPA is not supported in Australia. Why you need them? Why you pay for that? thats like a waste of money? who uses GPS? Camera, video camera, music player are common features, and it is smartphone. Look, Honestly, i dun really like S60. They are mediocre smartphone. They are smartphone but not so smart. And the price? haha.. only very dedicated ppl will buy it, or those with a lot of money in their pocket.

One of to remember why some Esato member is crazy on Ericsson and later SE because of the technology advancement Ericsson phone is.

all the gprs/ wap/ grey scale/ first 256 colour phone/ hscd modem/ titanium casing prototype etc was explored during Ericsson time and those are cutting edge stuff during tht period.

of course when SE can't make money...sure they go for the more profitable approach.

however at least for me, i do hope they try to do something cutting edge in technology again...yes no one using HSPDA or GPS so widely....but tht's how mobile phone industry is....most manufacturer put the function in and push it to customer to get them accept it.

I believe that N95 isnt big, it may have too many features but it is a mobile yet to be put in market, and it was design to have a long life and to attract tech aficionados. And it does that beautifuly as it also contributes to make nokiaīs image of advanced company. Nokia obviously cashes on that either, besides mobile sales.
Whatīs disappointing is that in the past ericsson and se always came up with something new and great. Thatīs how they acquired a not very big but very loyal market. however, this year SE not only didnt release any really interesting model but it got to the point of downgrading functions to change the productīs marketing! If u think of ericsson and se īs image of avant-guard companys, thatīs unacceptable. At least for the old users. SE will get new users and all.... but, wheres the sexiness? ahahahaha
Nokia on the other hand can manage to make all different kinds of low and mid phones and still make high tech mobiles for people like us. Perhaps in the future most of us will be using nokias.
But i do like SE, and i believe theres hope! LOL Perhaps the new Wega phones might turn out to be really exciting!

Most everything electronic we used have a lot of features we dont need. So why still buy? It's human nature to want everything. N95 is top-end so it is gonna be expensive but not to a point where u need to sell your kidney to buy one. In fact it is just 550euro. For those who wants high tech cutting edge phone, is there anything other than N95?

one add remark on Ericsson time.

what they impress me is how they expand the mobile phone experience thru accesories.

during tht time, ericsson phone in general might have so so features (those function i previously mentioned is not happening onto every model)

but they have a wide range of accs

remember the qwerty chat board?...tht's before T9 is popular or even offered.

remember the radio and mp3 plug in (using MMC card) before any phone come out mp3 built in (first mp3 phone i remember was Siemens)

remember the camera attachment which even can be used on monochrome phone like T39

talking of T39....it is among the first phone tht have triband, bt, infar red and gprs at a small package in 2001.

remember the infar red adapter when not many phone having it

also the first bluetooth adapter for ericsson phone.

they are also among the first to have a triband phone....

among the first to use lithium polymer

among the first to produce slim/small/light phone before Motorola come out with slim clamshell...(of course now...those small ericsson phone is giant)

remember tht Ericsson was first to produce bluetooth headset

SE was first to add a game pad to help gaming experience

among the first to have a bluetooth car

among the first to have tht robo tht have built in camera.

among the first to offer a symbian/psion phone (Ericsson R??? forget the model number)

Oh well for 2005 or 2006....i donno what can claim to be first or among the first.

What SE should make or launch today :

A new index (name it "U" for Ultimate) that has the following specifications:

- All features from P990 + 802.11g WiFi
- Camera from K800 (Cybershot)
- Video Recorder from W900
- Music quality from all Walkman Series
- Graphic Engine from W900
- Internal memory capacity from W950
- Design combining W850 and M600 (slider as W850 but slim and compact as M600).

Let's call it U900.
