an update concerning SE and 850MHz UMTS/HSDPA handsets:
http://www.theage.com.au/news[....]/2006/10/08/1160246013475.html
"While Telstra at present only has 850 MHz-compatible handsets from four manufacturers — LG, Samsung, ZTE and i-Mate — Mr Svanberg said it would release its own compatible handsets, under the Sony Ericsson brand, within the next year.
"It is not an extremely cost-complicating factor to work with different frequencies," he said.
"
svanberg is ericsson's global president and chief executive, so i think it's safe to take his word for it.

Cool!
We need some spy shots now
The Aussies seem to have it all at the moment, though wouldn't 850mz phones also be compatible with N America? Lets hope they aren't reworked versions of current designs and are all new products.

@Prom1: 786KBR was getting a bit excited...we've only had HSDPA since March/April on our networks...it might have been in testing since last year but only became commercially available around eight months ago.

In Belgium Proximus started promoting the HSDPA network. For the moment only a few cities are covered, but they promise to cover 80% of the country by the end of 2006! Downloadspeeds will then be 3,6 MBPS!!! (1,8 now)
Only problem is there are no HSDPA phones or PDA's available. The only way to use it is a PCMCIA card or USB modem. (240€)
