i used the very first wm2002 when they came out and have continured to use them, as well as the first p800 then p900, p910 and I now have a p990. On the phone only part I prefer the WM5 (Smartphone edition) which is the version on the Samsung you mentioned (no touch screen). Personally although I have a PPC running WM5 as well (HP6910) this is a bit bug an no 3G. However it does have built in GPS which means TomTom, calls and email on the same device.
As always I guiess it boils down to personal preference and useage. I just want a device which I can use for calling and email (activesync) all in one go, and for me the P990 just doesn;t do a good enough job of the activesync or RIM email to make it a permenant replacement for my WM devices at the moment. For me this is a shame as I was really hoping it would finally become the one solution to all my requirements!
I am now hoping the Samsung SGH-i600 will do the job.....

I hope this doesn't go into fanboy-mode.
I used the O2 XDA Exec for over 6 months, and besides having to go in for a service, it was utterly rubbish. It was quite fine when everything was empty and new, but install some software, fill the inbox with SMS' and emails and suddenly the machine is utterly slow and annoying. Pocket Outlook is disappointing (can't even read HTML emails) PocketIE is a joke, so you have to pay for Opera (lovely!) etc.
The phone part isn't very good either. Battery life less than one days usage. Not to mention annoying things such as only 3 alarms, no Converter application etc etc.
Naah, it's back to Symbian for me; whenever O2 gets their thumbs out...

One little nit to pick, how can you be a 'long time' P990 user when it's only been out for a couple of months?
On a slightly more on topic note, I've got an XDA2S, I know it's an older model running Windows Mobile 2003, but am quite impressed by it, and am a big fan of it. I had to delete a file on the phone to disable the O2 customisation on the phone, and that has made it 100 times more stable, rarely crashes on me whereas with the O2 'front' on the phone, it was doing it to me 3-4 times a day, and that's with light use!

To answer most of your puns:
I'm bothering asking about this because some of the problems related to the P990's sluggishness appears when the phone has been used for a period of time. As somebody mentioned, this may be installed programs and lots of SMS messages. I can't see such issues on the Samsung yet, which is why I ask. In the current state, the Samsung Windows phone is way better, but there must be a reason people still use Symbian, right? So I'm guessing this one will get old pretty soon as well.
I won the phone in a competition in my career. It's certainly available on the Swedish market.
I've been a longtime P990 user since I've had it since it was first released. But surely, I've used the P900 and P910 before that as well. So I know my way around Symbian.
I still haven't figured out which is the best phone. Please don't screw this up by start flaming eachother. I just wanna know the pros and cons that I haven't yet discovered or thought of.

I use a SPV M500 (Imate Jam) and have found it to be better than the P910i (havent used a P990). In the month that I have had it, it has not crashed once. I find Windows mobile easier to use than symbian to. I have also had a O2 XDA Exec too which I must admit did crash about oce a week and was not amazingly quick but it still seems to be more reliable than the P990i which seems to crash daily from what i have read.
