> K800i onscreen symbol

Must be something to do with the (Vodafone) firmware then, as I have just called my K800i from the house phone - and did not pick the call up, and the small symbol of a phone with a red cross in the top right appeared ...

WHY do they have to do that? I have *NEVER* seen an operator-branded phone where the graphics and user interface has become better than in the unbranded version. You no longer have a SonyEricsson K800i, it's a Vodafone K800i... YOu will have to wait longer for the operator branded version of the firmware updates as well.

This "carrier branding" is a real PITA
With the Vodafone K800i in the UK, it is not possible to install Shozu - an app for uploading photos to Flickr; according to Shozu tech support, they are "in discussions with Vodafone" as to how this issue can be overcome, but I'm not holding my breath. Bad news all round
Trouble is, a SIM free K800i is around GBP 250, whereas an upgrade with vodafone was FREE ...

It was indeed.
I'd called S.E who said the symbol didn't even exist on their phones and advised me to call Vodafone UK. After 30 minutes and 3 different people the last guy I spoke to calmly said "You don't have any missed calls do you?" and once I'd cleared the single missed call I had the symbol disappeared..

I'm not having a dig at you - honest! - but just step back and think what this episode must have cost Vodafone UK to resolve.
Seeing as they seem hell bent on changing a wide range of the OS in their branded phones,
SURELY it must be worth their while to post an addendum User Manual on the web!!!
I'm still hacked off that Vodafone have prevented me from installing the Shozu software ...

I actually prefer the Vodafone branding over the standard, the only thing that pisses me off is the removal of the Java certs which don't allow some apps to install (such as Shozu).
However I prefer the simple red 3G square over the white "cloud", I prefer the small G symbol over the signal bar rather than the ugly triangle for GPRS signal.
I prefer the icons, what's the point in showing a PlayStation pad for Entertainment, or just showing date/alarm icons for Apps (there's more than just those items in there!)?
While we're at it why did SE put the Remote Control
application in Entertainment instead of the Applications menu where it belongs?
At least Voda have sorted stuff like that out!!!
