Hello everyone,

I have tested my new W950i for a few days now and i really love it. Best phone i even had i think with the 4G memory and a ds970 bluetooth headset its rocks.

Anyway my problem is that i have lousy 3G reception. I am using Telia card which has the best reception and i live in Malmö so it should be at max reception or atleast 4/5 (indicator). Now i have a max of 3/5 and mostly 1-2/5 which is really bad. I have tested my other 3G card (comviq 3G) with the same result.
If i change to GSM (from the menu in connection i use manual and change network) i get full reception with both cards so the radio should not be defect i suppose.
Or it could be that GSM and UMTS (3G) are using different radio? anyone who knows for sure?
How about you guys, i mean do you have the same experience or anyone with a w950i have better reception then me?

Wondering if i should send the phone back but not sure yet if it is a defect or not. Anyone who have suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

I have problems with my P1i and the reception on 3G with Telia in Gothenbourg. My girlfriend have another SE-phone and use Telenor and her reception is great almost everywhere in the town. My P1 is realy bad and i often loose 3G when surfing on the web.

Is P1i bad in this case or are Telenor better for 3G than Telia here in Sweden?

I had hoped SonyEricsson/Ericcson had solved this issue by now.
I would guess the radio is "bad" as many recent phones. I dont mean bad as in detect but simply bad. I doubt changing the phone to another will help you.
Simply try you GF's sim in your phone and try

I have not switched to N95 as i got tired of the bad 3G and needed a builtin GPS

Goodluck.

I get far better GSM reception with my P1i than I do on 3G.

Can more people verify that P1i have bad reception on 3G compare to other phones? Is there a thread about it somewhere? I am very disapointed right now but suppose that i have to live with it... I have never seen full reception on 3G and i often loose the reception when i use it in Gothenbourg, i bought it 10 days ago.

Sad thing about this is that SE do not even want to confirm this or even investigate.
I mean just try the first SE 3G phone, w900i and use a 3G card in those with the same operator then try it in the W950 or your phone or W610 and you see the different! Reception is lower then half!!!

All new ones suffer from the same problem and i am amazed that SE can not do a simple test on this.
I emailed and called them and they say no one has reported this but guess what i told her that i am just doing it and she said she get back to me and nada.

I feel with you. A new phone that cost so much should not be that bas specially if its in the premium segment. If i was you i would either "reklamera" it or turn of the 3G unless you really need to download stuff since it also takes lot more battery when 3G is on. Mostly for going 2G-3G as the reception sucks

ps. I know of 4 people (girlfriend, mom, 2 friends with w610) who all have your problem and also their batteri died after ONLY 1-2 days. They thought it was something wrong with the phone but i just instruct them to turn off the 3G and all went to normal. 3G reception is almost always on 1 or max 2 bar and it goes back and forth from 2G to 3G etc so it is not a coincidence.
