my router is a D-link DI-524 (802.11g/2.4ghz)

My internet connection is iprimus broadband 256kb, tried setting it up with the laptop which has the wireless card in it which came with the router, but it doesnt seem to connect, but my desktop connects fine to it, thats prob because its connected straight into the desktop pc....

If i connect a standard modem/router to the laptop, the net works fine, with the wireless network, it says its connected to the 'Mariani internet' ( name of the connection) but the net doesnt actually work....

When i get a p990, i hope this problem doesnt happen with it....

btw thanks every one for your replies so far

So you are saying that, the internet connection is ok if you use Ethernet cable on both computer (desktop and laptop), but the wireless doesn't work?

If that is the case, most probably your P990 won't work too...

Have you tried to manually configure your wireless network connection (Local IP address, gateway, dns)?

Go to control panel>network connection>
-> right click your wireless connection> properties
-> on the scroll down box, select the TCP/IP (most bottom I think)
-> Set the IP address to 192.168.1.xxx (usually range from 100-253)
-> Set the subnet mask (when you press tab from IP it usually auto completed)
-> Set the gateway (your router address, 192.168.0.1 I think)
-> the dns server should be the same as the gateway

This is for winXP, dont really know if you using mac or linux =/
What OS are you using? WinXP SP2?
Have you tried using other wireless card? or other laptop?
Hope this help...

have not tried anything manually, just followed what the cd said to do.....

As i said, the laptop works with standard modem, havnt tried it with the router, but it connects to the wireless setup, but the net just doesnt work....the desktop works fine with either modem.....

I have misplaced the card, i will try looking for it and try what you have said vanyard....

btw, i have not tried it on another laptop, only tried one with the standard modem, and that worked.....

also, i got winXP...and im sure when i get a p990 the router will need some work done to it manually aswell.... if only my computer skills were slightly more advanced

Did you think about testing it yourself to see first?

it sounds like the wireless router may be encrypted, but youve not set the security details into the profile on the laptop. Because ur laptop picks up the signal, but cannot access the router/internet.

I had the same prob when I used a wireless 'B' card with a router that is wireless 'G'. It is suppoosed the allow wirelss B devices access it, but if I encrypted it in a certain way (can't remember WPA or WEP) the wirelss B card would not get through - maybe some other network whizzes here can help u further. Ive only ever setup 2 nad theyve gone smoothly.

I think he should test it himself first...
I don't think you can connect to the network if you don't put the network key in

Vaynard is right. Setting the IP and gateway manually should solve the problem. Besides, check ur firewall settings too. And most of all, did u try pinging the gateway IP from ur laptop?

Have you correctly configure the device for wireless connection?
As far I know, this kind problem (connected to the wireless network but no internet connection) only appear when the device's gateway is wrong or the router is faulty...
just a guess tho...I might be wrong...

Well, my brother who is a little more into computers, is the one who tried setting it up, he followed the instructions on the cd which came with the router.....The furthest we have got, as i said before, it connects but internet dosnt actually work....

As far as im concerned, i dont mind if the laptop doesnt work, but when i get the p990i i want that to be 100% working.....
