So you recode with nero to mp4? it takes mine ages to start a video of 100mb. A 400mb whole movie froze the phone. I've even got a sandisk ultra II 2gb card in there too. pffft!
Yes mate and i'm using a high speed pro duo the graphics is great.

Will ahve to try a nero recode mp4 and see the load times. I suspect its a coding issue and the way the media player handles it. I used Winavi ipod video converter with custom settings for mp4.

Does anybody have the perfect settings? I use Xilisoft IMToo DVD to 3GP converter and the mediaplayer crashes all the time...

Anyone seen the player used in the "walkman" models awailable for the 990?
Also wondering - what's the really big difference between a "walkman-phone" and a "normal" model... ex. the p990?
Will a walkman model be able to do more stuff than the 990?

Well the diference between the "normal" phones and the Walkman phones isn't that big. As your P990 is a smartphone, not a "normal" phone model, but let's say it is "normal" in this situation. The Walkman phones are different from others, because they've enhanced music options (better sound, more formats supported and etc...). The main difference is the MegaBass option in the Walkman's player equalizer menu. It gives you great sound by enhancing the bass of the sound and reducing the treble, so if your P990 has the MegaBass option (as I've seen on many screenshots, it has that option), a walkman phone cannot do anything better than the smartphone. For playing sound, the difference is minor. But it's not the same case with the videos. The smartphones have better processor with more speed and power so they can load\\play videos much faster than the Walkman or "normal" phones. I prefer smartphones for anything (including listening to music). In my opinion, the smartphone's media player is more advanced and etc...
Thanks

@strizlow800
Well none of that applies to the latest Walkman phone the W950 although the M600 has Mega Bass and graphic equaliser as does the P990. Jah has reported testing with various headsets and the W950 gives the best sound out of all of them using the HBH-DS970's.
Personally i find the sound from the M600 with those headphones to be excellent with MP3's encoded with Disc2Phone @192kbps but am waiting to try the W950 with my M2card and headphones to see. Also i believe the Walkman branding brings additional shortcuts.

The sound on the P990i is brilliant, tried a 320kbps mp3 of a track off the radio one live lounge cd and I i was very surprised. Even with the stock headphones the sound is excellent. Can't wait to get an adaptor and stick in my sony EX90's.
The only advantage the w950 has over the p990i in terms of music playing is the shortcuts, the sound quality difference (if there is any) is marginal. And if we wanted quality sound reproduction at the end of the day, we wouldn't be listening on our phones

From what I've seen on pictures, the media/music player on the W850 looks soo much nicer than what I have on my p990... would be nice to be able to run the same app...
I don't care about movies - but - for those of you that have tried both the 990 and "walkman" versions, what can you tell about the difference in sound quality?
