To be fair I think Aware answered the question...

The guy in Vodaphone isn't going to be an expert on the P990 and therefore will not know the in's and out's of the branding etc... I know he / she should... but anyway...

What the guy in Vodaphone is offering, is to unlock the phone so that any SIM card will work in it - regardless of the service provider.

As Aware has pointed out, this makes no difference to SESU. You could put a any SIM card in your phone but the SESU will still recognise CDA as the Voda one. Unlocking your phone doesn't effect this! So you could have an O2 PAYG SIM card in there, but SESU will still see that the CDA is for a Voda P990.

I do have a question though... How do I change my CDA to 162007/1(/2/3)?

Cheers,

Stiltz

Thankyou, stiltzkin.....

Unfortunately, the CDA area of the f/w is only customisable by flashing(just like the Phone/BT/ORG areas), and even SEUS doesn't affect the CDA area; know all too well what would happen if they gave it that kind of authoritive power.........
Although, if no-one is working on a custom flasher for UIQ3 phones(bearing in mind the $$ value of such), I'll be amazed........

Hi all,
Really simple guys just changing the CDA would not be enough as SEUS now also reads and checks the IMEI. Part of the point of all these new phones and their increased security features is not only can users no longer access all files and folders on all drives. It is currently not possible to do anything re De-Branding and running generic software or even unlocking these phones anymore takeing it to an SE service centre will make no difference they also will not flash to Generic firmware. It is possible there will be 3rd party developments but i do doubt it.

This all makes depressing reading but thanks for all the answers guys. I am thinking of sending my phone into Voda to have the firmware updated but part of me thinks I should wait since there is all this talk of new firmware in a couple of weeks from SE. It would really piss me off if I had my phone updated and then 2 weeks down the line an even newer version became available. Anyone know when Voda next firmware version will be released?

I just bought the Vodafone "unlocked" version from my local phone shop. Only the vodafone branding on switching it on and off etc as previously stated.

Now ... here is the crux of my problem. I inserted a UK 3 Network SIM card into the phone, but all the information is still relating to Vodafone live, and all that for internet access.

Will "unlocking" the phone by paying the £20 allow me to change the internet settings to allow me to get MMS, and Internet access across the 3G network?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry just hijacked this thread should have posted new. Apologies.

In short - no.

Your phone is already unlocked. What the 20 quid unlocking does, is make it possible to use any brand SIM card in your phone. You can already do that.

As for the internet branding, I believe you can change those settings yourself. (I'll re-post when I have time to put down the steps for this). What you may not be able to do is change the 'branding' of the browser. But you should be able to conect to the Three services.

I hope this helps a little...

How / who unlocked your phone for you?

I have a Vodafone P990i and I'm using from the start an Orange card with it. The branding consists of startup/shutdown ugly blood red screens, a complete reworking of the menus (actually I got used to them now) and some links to Voda live that can be removed from the browser. I found the phone to be somehow crashing less than the unbranded ones (from what other users are saying) so I'm not sure I want their stuff removed anymore. And yes, it can connect to SEUS, but as it already got the latest firmware I can't update. Will see in January...
