I'm going to try and tackle it tonight. It was left all day yesterday hoping it would rectify itself but instead was thrashing itself till the next morning.

TBH, i only restore the messages and the contacts while everything else is re-set from scratch so i'm clueless wtf happened?!

If you flash your P990I using the SEUS, do you loose all your data? Or do you have to back it all up like contacts etc?

Thanks

Yes, you will loose all your data. Just make a backup first

at this stage, I would not recommend a restore. what I do is flash, sync up with PC (contacts, calendar...), and then manually install all apps (others on this forum use the same). In case u had a problem with the phone software, the resore will bring it back.

before all of that trying removing the memorystick and restarting
if it doesnt work restart the phone in FC if still u are having the problem then flashing it is the only way out

Right here's an update.

I am pretty much convinced the fault was due to a program that was installed. Now, i haven't many so it shouldn't be too hard to track down and resolve. However, the one time i decided to install my apps to the phone's memory, this crap began. So, now i've reverted to installing the apps to the MS.

One of the main benefits of this is that if the fault is indeed due to the rogue app, pulling the MS should stop it running and getting caught in the loop.

Now, i focused on fixing the issue yesterday evening and was unfortunately forced to restore the phone from another & separate PC. This meant exporting over the existing backups such as calendar and contact details. Despite the help files explaining the process of doing just this via the File->Export/Import commands, Backup Manager does not have this function listed.

Thanks very much SE.

So, i had to do some digging around and discovered that the backups are installed in the C:\\Documents and Settings\\USERNAME\\Application Data\\Teleca\\Backup Manager\\Backup Archive\\3.0 folder in a compressed & password protected zip file.

Again, and to add to the challenge, SE didn't make it an easy task of moving the backups to another folder, another PC or indeed backup'd up to CD for future use. Apparently, the programmers decided to contain specific data for each backup in the registry. This means that if you were to ever to carry out any of the above procedures in future, you will need the additional info stored on each unique backup from the registry. A very poor design if you ask me.

Anyway the info is stored in the following key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Teleca\\Mobile Connectivity Suite\\Backup Manager\\3.0\\Backup Engine\\Backups where you will need to make a few changes to the path to the backups among a few other obvious things.

Eventually, and despite the above pitfalls, i got everything back up and running. I would have preferred to have used the time elsewhere, but i guess we're gona have to put up with the way things are for a while yet.

Hopefully the info will be of use to someone else under the same circumstances.

Now i remembered the first version of stris 2 made my P990 enter into reboot loop, so i agree it was software that must have made the same with yours

The fecker has done it again!?

WTF is going on with these phones? I was just sitting working away at the pc, then notice the phone restart out of its own accord. Ok, thinking it needs to restart to recover resources (for doing what? Idling?!) it locks itself into some fubar'd reboot loop.

It took me an evening to get it back up and running after the last time. Now i have to do it once again!?

There is only so much us people/customers can take.

I have got a even better idea. 'flash' it down the toilet and get yourself a wm5 Os cell. I am more and more disappointed by symbian (s60 included) :-(

. . . and along comes Mario with a most ingenious idea!

I hate to keep saying this, but my P990i is working fine. I suppose a visit to a service center is due. If they can't sort it out they should
replace it.
