is it just a myth that keeping your mobile phone on during flights crashes the plane? as many people actually do it and nothing happens

alot of signal is lost to the sky.
when looking at radio waves of your normal radio station they have gone passed are solarsystem. the closest starsystem which is genarations away when flying a plain, has recieved elvis some time ago.
radio waves also go up. so its quite normal then you can use your gsm on a plain. also in area's with high mountains.

According to mythbusters it is just a myth. I've forgotten the reason behind it.

Only thing is, half the time people are just flying over great expanses of ocean or areas with no towers.

Very true, still crazy how radio waves work. When I close the window in my apartment (triple glazed) thats it the signal in my place goes to zero (on all networks).

I am going to have fun this winter when I want to make a call...

it's also the same w/ gas stations. maybe it's because the plane's frequency is far from the GSM freqs w/c is 800-1900mhz. correct me if i'm wrong. some lunatic must have made up this plane theory...

BTW i've always seen in the airplane movies that the passengers would call their loved ones during some hijack. i've always wondered why the plane still doesn't have any problems(technical of course). now i know..
