> M600: static when playing music/vids!

How bad's the static? I'm using a P990 and experiencing the same thing you mentioned. Was the same for my old K750 as well but first noticed it when used with the hpm-70.

@Dogmann: I mentioned the P990 as well because it appears that cooljazz has/had the same problem with several P990's. See the links posted in his post.
@Discord: The static is faint and continuous. Its especially audible when general multimedia volume is low, the music/video has a low volume passage or when the music/video is paused.
How bad is it? That's subjective, but to me it's definately noticeable and so it's getting more and more annoying.

@DocTorpor
I played the same track on 2 different phones. Seems that my K610 doesn't have this problem. Tried different headphones as well. The P990 had issues with static for both. More apparent with the HPM-70 than the DS970. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this is a problem that the service centre can fix.

To all, me too, facing this issue on my P990i and tested on 3 different headsets (the standard packaged one, HPM-70 and HPM-82) all the same static/crackling sound at low vol no matter what EQ level I set, especially fade in/fade out whch is most noticeable. The same pro duo stick when put back into my good old P910i does not have this issue and play back perfectly.
I am waiting for the next firmware and see if that solves the issue else it could really be hardware since not all people are facing this problem. Btw, on R3B01 firmware currently.

Thank you all for your reactions. More and more complaints surface: good! (or actually: BAD!)
Good because it now looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this phenomenon.
Bad because it's now starting to look like a hardware issue across at least the M600i and P990 and different firmwares. I doubt that the next firmware will solve this. But you never know (just want to remain positive).
Any W950 owners that can back my/our experiences in this area, since (a large part?) of the hardware seems to be identical to the hardware on the M600 and P990. Would be hard to swallow for a 'Walkman' branded phone.

Hi to all,
I have noticed the crackling sound on P990i when using the headsets or w/o them even during voice calls. It occurs only on some words said by the counterpart and it may be heard with volume at 0 or 1-2 bars. It looks like the same problem intially existing with K750i, which was a f/w and not a h/w issue.
May you try to pay attention whether it occurs on your phones too (try it in a calm environment and with low volume): you might think that it is the network but it it is rather the phone.
In the light of my K750i experience I would say that it is a f/w issue but we have to check whether we have it on several units in order to make SE aware of this.
Cheers

Any news about the audio quality on M600i?

Hello ermetek,
Unfortunately I haven't found a permanent solution. It still appears to be a hardware issue so I gave up hope.
To me, it's not a solution to have an active GPRS connection all the time: extra battery drain and additional cost for the datasession.
An other solution might be to listen to music on very high volume, in an attempt to 'overpower' the static. I just like my hearing too much for it to get dammaged trying to cover up some static. Deafness is way more annoying than the static
I'm dissappointed in the audioquality over headphones on an otherwise almost perfect phone (for me).
I hope that SE will take notice of this issue and will redesign the M600 successor properly in order to fix this annoying static/interference.

I have also encountered this problem.
I have discussed this with SE support. They say that this is a known issue BUT they claim that the noise level is too low to be considered "not normal" and will therefore not lead to any repair/replacement. SE further says that this will not be resolved by any FW updates.
I have tried three different M600i and they all suffer from this. It would be interesting to know if this occurs on all M600i.
The method for detecting this static is something like this:
1. go to a really quiet place, use headphones, like hpm-70 and play any sound
2. press pause in the middle of a song - the static should be there
3. start the web browser and download a web page (do not use bluetooth) - the static is no longer there
4. disable the data connection - the static returns
I have also recorded this static. I don't know how to share this recording on this forum.
I find this static really annoying. I enjoy listening to music in my office. This noise makes it impossible to listen at low volumes.
