"M600i on latest firmware is rock solid"

Wake up mate, have you been reading the posts or are you in your own little world playing with your M600i and think it works 100%

HELLO

Dunno about you but I'm wide awake. If you were too, you might go back and see that I was a big critic of this phone initially when it came out because the frist two firmwares were just plain unstable and it was near rip off situation.

But since then the thing has stabilized with the later firmwares. That is just the fact.

If we want to criticise when SE is doing bad, we should be equally willing to give acknowledgement when they are doing things well. And that is what I am doing.

I'd rather the phones had been sold with THIS firmware from day 1, but that said the phone is well worth buying now for anyone who doesnt need a camera. And as I've said before this is the best phone keyboard of all time bar none - at least of my lifetime as a mobile phone user going back 10-12 years now.

Hi all,
currently there is no way to debrand the new Symbian phones and due to the new inbuilt security features of the OS i for one seriously doubt it will ever be possible and this is possibly one of the reasons they have done this. Forget about what has been possible in the past as it is a whole new ball game now. As to the current firmware of the M600 it is indeed very stable although again like all the new Symbian phones what has been possible is no longer multitasking is possible but only in a much more limited way and the smooth running of your phone does require some active Ram management IMO.

Bought my M600i SIM free and been very happy with it, can be a bit slow starting applications (especially the web browser) after it's just been switched on, but that's my only complaint really.

I can't update the firmware unfortunately because I have a Mac and they don't make an updater program for them

I will add my support for the M600. I had one of the first and it was appalling but by the 3rd firmware upgrade it was great and I have very few issues with it. My P990 on the other hand is still very, very poor despite the latest updates.

This is my view on the status of the M600i

First firmware release it had when i bought it:
Totally useless phone

After first upgrade:
Useless

After second upgrade (present released firmare)
Barely usable.

Barely usable for me is to pick some problems:
To slow

Bluetooth stereo looses connection sometimes. Phone needs a restart to connect to the headset. I blame the phone and not my bluetooth stereo headset because its the phone that needs a restart.

Normal bluetooth headset has sometimes clicking disturbing noice (SonyEricsson headset). Sometimes refuses to connect and have to answer call in phone instead of headset. Headset works good with k800.

Still craches and restarts frequently (One time out of 20) in maybe 5 different use cases, like when clicking "read more" in RSS feed to go to web-browser.

It did improve with the latest firmaware, but i dont consider the above to be something i expect from my phone.

And last: The ridiculous message: "Your phone has been restarted to improve performance." Thats the most stupid message for a crash i have never seen. Why cant they put back something like the good old "guru meditation" message from the commodore Amiga days. Or maybe just a blue screen of death. Thats at least something people are used to see...

Maybe not many people are using the functions i use. If you just make phonecalls it will rarely crash on you. But then i would not have bought this phone.

@nyback and all,

My last post was 5 days ago, i only had this phone from the latest upgrade just a month in total, and didn't experience any crashes or freezes.

I used this phone for 9 days as my main phone this was done after a fresh install and everything was reformatted. Bluetooth IMO was flaky at best, the phone is slow in everything it does, even using SwissMager Pro and actively closing apps it leaks Ram even over a 3 day period. The screen is brilliant but not all in lighting conditions in some it is virtually invisible, If you use the Music Player with bluetooth stereo headset(It's best feature IMO) battery life is appalling on the phone the headsets battery life is acceptable the phones isn't. I know there is new firmware coming but i decided this was not the phone for me irrespective of what new firmware may be able to do.

A friend recently bought an M600i and has been experiencing certain problems. When hooked up to pc via usb, phone is not detected, and sometimes phone freezes.
Then the bizarre one. Each time the phone comes out of standby, it displays the message "battery low" even when the battery is fully charged.
Whats the latest firmware version, and will an upgrade solve this problem?
