the P990i is worth it, its has become stable, and its well supported.
windows mobile should still be put aside, cause symbian is still easyer and nicer to look at.
just go to the shop and test the phone yourself, so you get the general feeling, if you like what you are holding, then buy it.

@anuj

If your coming from the p900/p910 then your probably used to the lack of one handed usability. If you use it as a 'dumb phone' then it'll manage, but if you use multiple multimedia apps, you'll see other apps crash to make way. The phone is as slow (or fast) as any other smartphone. Generally, the controls setup on the phone is quite bad, in that its difficult to complete tasks and speed up use.

But i have to say, each built in app on its own (apart from opera), is top quality, like the music playback, radio, camera, wifi is good. The best looking phone i've seen in a long time.

I'm still using the original firmware that my p990 came with a week before vf's release. I gotta agree that so long as you pay attention to task manager you shouldn't have many probs. Hopefully SE will get some 64bit software and drivers sorted so i can finally sort the phone out.

I also have a k800, so does my brother. I personally prefer the k800 as a phone because it's not too complicated to use and everyone I've recommended it to loves it. My brother on the other hand has his eyes on a p990 when he gets the option to change his phone in feb.

Someone mentioned the qwerty pad being on the small side. I'm gonna agree with that, but also add that I get around it fine. I use my thumb for the space bar and the rest of the time i write with the stylus.

I have no problems recommending this phone but I'd suggest that you consider how you wish your phone to serve you before you do so.

Mine arrives next Monday!!!!
I am going from a K750I to it but I had a P800I so roughly know what to expect. It will be an Orange model on an 18 month contract and I have no worry's at all about it. The Symbian OS looks wise is way better then Microsofts effort and it performance is just as good. I will load Swiss Manager free edition on it to see if I need it and will be happy playing with my new toy for ages after.
I have been uming and aaring too between the M600I, W950I, P990I and K800I. I plummed for the P990I as it's got a nice big screen, a fantastic 2mp camera, video calling and is Sony's current top of the range. Being able to get 4GB memory cards is great too.
I'll let you know what I think of it next week if you want, the first thing I'll do is check and update the firmware.

Regarding querty it much depends on practice and bit of patience until use to it (certainly if one's fingers are really large then he can't use it). For me P990 querty
is very practical. What I also like is one hand usage of the phone. It is now a pleasure to write sms or email while walking (during day or night), very functional.

the handset has so many features that makes this a very good handset but the bugs over rule them...

the keyboard is very good and once you get used to the size you can type very fast...even the lighting in the key board is also good

Hi Guys,

Again mixed views but on the whole I think most of you "are happy".....

I've been offered a brand new sim free for £260 - is it worth it?

Cheers

i have a m600i and it's crap. The keyboard is great but symbian is the worst. The crap doesn't support one-hand operation and the menu system is horrible. It's like 3 year olds were in charge of userfriendliness.
