People don't want to pay for music if there are other ways of getting hold of the tunes you want.
Microsoft's Zune will go the same way. You can download tunes on to your Zune player but if you transfer them they are only playable for a certain amount of time.
Restrictions! People will always find ways of getting around them.

Thing that bugs me is the amount of money i've wasted on albums which have 2-3 good songs on and the rest is garbage! If I could preview the whole album as oppose to just 30sec like on itunes I can choose whether I want to buy the whole album or just the main tracks.

i gotta say its a total rip off -
if downloads were cheaper - sure id buy them to test drive an album (then go on to actually buying the cd hard copy

)... but they shoot themselves in the foot charging up to roughly 60p each...... i mean come on! (an album is over a fiver then (and the quality is seriously compromised.... and to anyone who says it aint try buying a better hifi and you'll understand

)
prices may be wrong as i actually havent ever bought off itunes... i used to use this russian site that was about 7p per track.... until i found out it wasnt legit..... (now i use it without admitting it - whoops!)

But my main reasoning is the sound quality and restrictions.
128Kbps is far too compressed to listen on a decent stereo. And with CDs you have no restrictions to the music that you rightfully own.
