I took care of my k800i, yet, the joystick still broke...i don't think its very good for playing games...

In answer to the question posed in the title of the thread IMO unfortunately yes is the answer. You only have to read the various Forums to see the evidence of this and not just there basic handsets either even there high end phones and better not even look at their smart phones. SE really need to get their house in order or they will start to lose the gains they have made in market share very quickly IMO.

That looks like a nice phone, but like I said above, I don't really like phones that you have to "open" them with some way, and I'm not really interested in walkman phones...

Yeah, the K610 is also a phone that I'm interested on and I might get if I won't get a K800.

And since I will play games, because I will finally have a phone with MIDP 2, more capacity and a faster java engine...
Will try to adapt to the keypad if the game supports it...

those factors depend on a lot of things, and it gets even more difficult if you have many different factories or even other companies which produce your products(arima, quanta...)
sony ericssons goal at the moment is to grow in marketshare and to make profit. the easiest way to achieve this, is to target the middle-end to low-end phone consumers. in reality there are only a view who really buy high-end mulitmedia phones, the next problem with high end phones is, that the r&d is pretty expensive as the production process is - so you don't make much profit of them - they are only polishing your image (you can see this also with the sportcar manufacurers)

Mike, I suggested the W810 because of the camera, wich has autofocus as K800. I'f you don't mind the camera very much W850 is a nice option too. You don't need to open it very much, just slide it for texting. Anyway, there's not much of an option until SE launches new phones.

the w850 looks nice but i can't help feeling slightly disappointed with the crippled camera - i would have gone for it if SE maintain the camera of w800 in it. having said that, there are some nice upgrades in the w850 - 3g, walkman2, mspd instead of ms m2, flashing led, nice battery life, better screen and funky design.

Im not too sure about the joystick on the K700 being bad quality because I've seen pictures on these forums previously where a K700 has been microwaved and the joystick surviving.
My W810 has quality problems though where the chrome on the D-pad is rubbing away and leaving an ugly grey bit underneath it. This has only spread round the chrome ring on the outside of the D-pad.
