what do you guys think? I would like to start a disgussion on this

How difficult is it to spell "discussion"?

Anyway, never been a fan of the P990 even though I loved my P910...the current phone just looked like an experiment that went all wrong, from the new OS to the design(no five-way jogdial) and an inability to use many apps in flip-closed mode...I thought would've listened to their customers.

It also didn't help that the phone arrived in stores quite late compared to the time it takes other companies(HTC/Nokia) to announce their smartphones and have them in stores at the promised times or very close.

I won't say it's a flop on the scale of the Siemens SX1 but could've done better, hope they've learned lessons.

to launch 3 times the same design its a bit boring imo...

It's a business orientated handset, and if the initial design proved popular it is arguably better to maintain the fundamental basis of that design. It isn't intended to be a fashionable handset appealing to the latest fad, but rather a practical tool.

I totally LOVE mine and find it VERY easy to use. It's fantastic and exaclty what I want. I would say it's a bit slow at points etc but it hasn't restarted once that I've noticed and I know SE will release beter and better firmware updates.
You may not like it but to call it a total flop is totally over the top IMO and a label it in no way desereves.

hmmm see we got soem mixed views on this.

I agree with the fact its designed more for business uses, and its one of the reasons I bought mine, but I do think se failed

Bart wrote - that its been bought by loyal fans, but its also been sold on by them after using it... I myself sold mine after using it for about 3 days, Miss c tried to sell hers, but couldnt, and most of the other hard core fans sell them, I think the big M has sold his, even our other ausie member ads has his on the market.

It is also one of the only phones I have seen deprecate in value so fast, within it coming out.

heres another fact to discuss. - The car phone where house now has this phone in their clearance section...

I have the P990 and have had it for over a month now.

However i can get the phone to crash very easily.

Se wont tell you this direct (But i do know from my sources)

This is the most complained phone to SE, Most Returns and Most faults.

SE was supposed to release the P990 firmware update in Dec but deceided to leave it to Mid Jan (Why) due to more tweeking on the firmware.

SE are trying to get the next firmware correct (Well sort 90% of faults)

I also own a K800 and so far this is 100% more reliable than the P990, so the P990 is confinded to my desk at the moment. (Shame really)

Any way One stop phone shop (Carphonewarehouse) has had the P990 on clearence for the last 2 months (This is one of the most highest return rate of any phone and the Highest in SE standards.

Merry Xmas to you all

Very bad device. I've had both P800 and P910 and decided to buy the P990... Very bad, after 3 days use, returned it ans went back to my P910. I'm now waiting for the replacement... HTC 3600. But will keep my P910.

I have no idea but id sure like to know

thanks darrengf I really think thats put some perspective on the matter, and your theory seems to make perfect sense.

What I don't get is why sony sisnt do more to relasese the p990 earlier, the protos were around for over a year before it was released...

one of its main problems (other then the bugs) was other phones say by nokia are the same functionality (n73) but work well and are smaller with more functions, by the time the p990 came out it was already close to being outdated...

I don't quite agree - 100% here . . . be it as it may, do you think amongst the (4) P-series . . . . the P990i is the worst of em all
