Yup. This is for home users. For hardcore pc enthusiasts who wants the best desktop processor available today. Servers are a completely different field. Thats where the xeons and the opterons come into picture. I would rather overclock a dual core processor which i should get at half the price of this baby. We've gotta wait for multithreaded applications to really take advantage of those 4 cores. But yes it is the best desktop processor money can buy as of now.

This is the first public models of the Kentsfield (Quad) core. They are only released as Core 2 Extreme right now, but will also be released as Core 2 Quad later on. The Extreme series is intended for workstations for 'extreme power users', while the Core 2 Quad probably will be a bit cheaper... (Wikipedia has a lot more info about this in the Intel Core 2 article.)

In Q2 this year, it's scheduled along with all the rest of the core 2 duo range, for a price drop down to $531 or £300

AMD have a piss poor platform called 4x4 which is two dual core processors on one motherboard, obviously with each CPU needing a heatsink, ad 2 sticks of RAM each. But there is only one motherboard supported. They should be coming out with better offerings later on this year.
